New Skates (TO vs. one95)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'll start off by saying that I'm a supreme guy, I love this line of skates and they fit my foot perfectly. My current skates (one75) are on their last leg and I have been considering a new pair. But, I'm torn between snagging a pair of one95 now while they're on their way out, or buying a pair of the TOs. Both skates are fantastically light and I've heard tons of great stuff about each. I've gotten a chance to check out the TOs and they ARE very nice (the reflex tongue seems cool), but the one95s aren't exactly bad skates either. I just was interested in getting some opinions, if you have any (good or bad), about either skate. Obviously the one95s would save me significant money and I'm just not sold yet that I would be getting $400 more performance out of the TOs. Thanks in advance for any input.

Scott

IMO it totally depends on your financial situation. The real value of the additional $400 is relative to how much money you have total. If it means you will have to go without eating for a month then I'd say don't do it. If you are an elite player and have money burning a hole in your pocket then go for it.

I've had my one95's since the day they came out. Still in excellent shape, and other then the odd pain here and there (bad lacing technique gave me lacebite and a bruised ankle refused to heal) they have been excellent. I will say that they've lost a bit of there initial performance but they still are top notch skate two years later.

In terms of durability there is some slight wear on the liner from the tongue rubbing in which the liner is worn down to the plastic. But that's it. The outer shell is still stiff and the outsole (while it is peeling a bit) is still perfectly in tact.

I will however be upgrading to the TO's once they come out, partly as I can feel the response in my one95's starting to wane, and partly because I am just wanting the newest stuff. I won't be getting rid of my one95's anytime soon as I plan on still using them as backups and for reffing.

I'm in the same boat. I've always been a Supreme guy, and I have a pair of one90's on the back nine of their service life. I haven't tried either model on yet so I'll be interested to hear how they fit you. If they fit the same I'd lean one95 myself.

If you can't decide between the two there is always the gap " one100" just a suggestion with the updated line and being th second high end skate it will probably be one of the best skates for it's price! Updated one95 with a nicer tongue and cheaper price would definetely worth it! Just a suggestion :P

Hey guys,

Not sure why nobody is picking up on this, but there's no such thing as 'supreme guy' since pretty much all skates in the supreme series fit differently.

case of point - One75 fits close to One90, but is very different from One95.

I couldn't even put One90 on since it's quite narrow & fairly low volume skate

One95 on the other hand is much wider, much more volume etc

With that I'd try One95 on first & then decide if it's even suitable.

BTW not that it matters, but my experience is remarkably similar to furlanitalia's: had One95 for almost 2 years, and they served me well, but did loose their kick a bit... TO sounds attractive, but awefully expensive! :(

Thanks guys! Tons of great info

what I meant by "supreme guy" is not that I love a the ENTIRE supreme line, just that I dislike the vapor series and other similar skates that put you up on your toes a bit. I much prefer skates that are a bit more nuetral in that area, like the supreme line.

That's interesting about the one95 loosing their kick a bit, but after two years I guess that's to be expected, I know my one75s aren't exactly what they use to be.

I may be wrong but I remember someone on here mentioning that the one100 will be cheaper than the one95 was when it initially released, however it is not going to be 'cheap' ie. it will still be priced in line with the top level skate of other companies.

In other words, I don't think the one100 is going to be priced at a level the one75 was priced at, even though it is the second highest skate in the line. It will be considerably more expensive.

If your mind is set on the One95, One 100 or Total One, I'd probably try to find a pair of One95s in your size on closeout now. Those should still offer you great performance if they fit you properly and it should be the cheapest option. Then, over the next few years you can keep an eye out for the best deal you can on Total Ones (or perhaps some of the new features will be incorporated into other skates that aren't as pricey as the Total Ones in a few years...I'm thinking the mid-line 2012/2013 Supreme).

Will the Total Ones offer potentially better performance than the One95? Probably, but I don't think they will offer double the performance and the price will be up to twice as much as a clearance pair of One95s. If money isn't an issue though, by all means go for the Total Ones if they fit you well (or order customs).

Like it was mentioned before, make sure the One95 fits properly. I recently made the change from One75 to One95 and there was quite a difference for me in terms of width and depth. The One95's fit wider and are much stiffer. IMO, if it fits, I'd look for One95's on closeout.

How did the stiffer boot treat you, was it an easy transition out of the one75? Did they break in a bit?

Obviously I haven't tried the TotalOnes, but I bought closeout one95's a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with them. If they fit your foot, I wouldn't hesitate to get them now on closeout. I can't imagine the TO's possibly being good enough to justify the jump in price. They'll be more than twice as expensive, but I think it will be a few years before a pair of skates comes out that's more than twice as good as the one95. I went from a broken down graf skate that was probably the wrong size to one95's that are a perfect fit, so some of my praise may just have to do with how they fit me - but they are a perfect fir for my foot, and I didn't have any problem with the greatly increased stiffness. I would compare the switch for me from going from a wood stick that had been used for road hockey to a custom high end ops.

Unless you're comparing close out prices with brand new, then the price difference won't be that much. But yah, if you aren't too worried about having the best then get the one95's, they are a great skate.

The transition out of the One75 was pretty painless since the One95 was a better fit for me. I found the One95's had less hot spots than the One75's. I can't really attest to the break-in period since I bought them used off of a fellow MSH'er and they were pretty well broken in. The stiffer boot is definitely noticeable but it turned out to be an advantage for me as I found it helped improve my stride.

My experience with my one95's (if it helps)

Went from a Bauer Supreme 3000 to Bauer One95

Skate size went from 10.5 wide to 8.5 normal. (EE->D i think?)

Skates killed feet and were crazy stiff for months, but now fit like a glove and I couldn't be happier.

Vapor XXX's were 11.5d, one90 was 11d, and one95 is 10.5d. Whn I bought them I expected to get an 11 but found that there was way too much room in the forefoot. The owner told me to try the 10.5's and they killed. Killed. He said let's just bake them and if they still kill your feet we'll go to 11's (super nice guy). Anyway, once they were heated they fit perfectly.

That is what I'm comparing. If one95's were still regular price, I'd say screw it and go with the new one.

ONE75 and ONE95 are really different fits, my foot swims in the One95, and fit pretty well in the one75s and the one90s.

That being said if the one95 fits you I would go with them, especially with them being on clearance at a lot of people.

Yah I think it's been beaten to death that the one75 is a revamped one90 which was a shallower boot. The one95 uses the Alive Composite in the boot and has more depth to it. They are wider in the forefoot and do fit differently. That's why I went down half a size in mine, like starsfan71 my foot swam in the one95 11d but fits perfect in the one90 11d

now that I'm getting rid of my xxxx's. I really want to try a pair of total ones or one100's.

April 15th my friend, I'll be at my hockey shop trying the whole new line on. :)

This thread led me to go try the one95 and it really wasn't my skate, just didn't have that good fit on my foot.

I hate to break it to you but if the one95's don't fit you might be out of luck moving forward considering the TotalOne has the same fit as the one95, and the one100 is a one95 with thicker tongue.
