Reebok 10k vs 6k shin pads

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for something with wrap around protection (I've been cut behind the leg once that's why) while not being too bulky. Is the 10k overkill for rec hockey? or does the 6k provide enough cover behind the leg? Price is not a factor since the difference between these two is only $20.

Thanks. I will have to give those a look. It doesn't seem like the protection doesn't cover most of the achilles well enough but I guess thats what the guards on the skates are for. Will have to see/try for myself!

The 10K is a LOT of shin for rec league, imo. I got them because I have a damaged patella and I need the extra protection for going to a knee. But the bulk of the 10K is way more than I would have wanted otherwise. If all you want is good calf protection from cuts, I think there are probably less bulky options - might even consider kevlar socks with your current shins if the shins are otherwise adequate.

If that is the case what about the 8k? IMO really good protection for the price. Surpised no one spoke of the 8k lol

The 8K's have ZERO calf protection. Otherwise a great shin pad though. Great strapping system, deep fit, well vetilated, comfortable and good forward protection.

Go with the 10K. If your looking for protection then go with the best you can afford, don't skimp to save a few bucks. If you want a slimmer fitting shin pad you'll need to go for an top end Bauer or Easton shin pad. ( Vapor XXXX,XXV Supreme 95,75 or Easton S-17, Stealth SE16 ) All these shin pads provide great calf protection.

nothing wrong with getting 9k's on close out. i bought a pair recently for $55 new. They're really wide, but I like them for defense because of that fact.

Thanks duch, I'll check out a few more of those products you suggested. I just figured Reebok shinguards (though i don't know about this model) are closely related to the old Jofa line which were very protective.

I was also considering the 9k as well!

the 6k's that those prefer for shin pads, are these with the blue and white striped graphics on the front? or are there other model years/colours for the RBK 6k shin pads? perhaps the yellow/white/gray ones?

I have the 6k's and they have great behind the leg protection.

The 10k are huge shin pads and might be a bit much for rec hockey, as they are very bulky.

I'd go with the 6k's

Where did you find 'em for $55?!? Everywhere seems to have 'em for around $100 still.

Any particular reason why that model has no calf protection?

I get the impression the Reebok 8k was intended to be a slightly "beefier" replacement to the Rbk 6k, as it has the floating sling and ventilation system. So I guess its their higher end shin pad aimed a weight reduction? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, for those of you in the know, how does the Rbk 5k compare to the Reebok 8k, more or less padding?

i picked up a pair of reebok 6k shins (most recent model - blue/white kinetic style). The thing is there isnt much of a calf wrap at the back, so i was wondering did the other 6K's have a good wrap?

There's a link ( http://www.thefind.com/sports/info-rbk-6k-shin-guards )where in the second row shows the current and past models of the 6K shin pad. Which one tends to be the best 6K? and will i have the same comfortable feel i have with the new 6k pad i purchased?

The last two 6k models look to have more calf protection than the current model. If I was gonna buy 6k shins, I would buy the orginal blue and white ones. They might feel different due to different liners.

Hope this was what you were looking for

The 8090's are top end professional pads and are slimmer than the 9 or 10K"s but are bulky like them. That's what I wear for contact and semi contact. Maybe a bit too much for pickup or beer league but superior protection. I would try some of the shin pads I mentioned in my earier post or go with the 6K's if money is tight.

I have the 6Ks and my teammate has the 10Ks, and I actually think the 6Ks have a better calf wrap. The 10Ks' wrap doesn't feel as solid, and neither go all the way around my legs.

Thx. What do you think of the old strapping system of those past 2 pads? They don't have the " v" strap is it?
