How many shafts do you keep on hand?

Recommended Posts

Absolutely not. Especially when they put them on clearance, and then they discontinue them a few years down the road, you'll be glad you bought 20 of them.

I usually have a couple main ones, a couple old/practice shafts, and will usually have at least one or two that I rotate in and out to mess around with.

Amen, if you have the extra money, load up on what you like and keep them in your closet. You never know when they will pull the plug on it.

Cyclone

Metamorphic dangler and flyweight

T-Flex

Novius

R2Xn10

those are the big ones that stick out, loved them and they discontinued them and eventually i ran out.

I still have three brand new R2XN10s in my closet. You can never have too much of a good thing, especially when the good thing has been discontinued.

Exactly.

I used Cyclones for years and switched to some other things before realizing how much I loved them. So I started scouring the US several years after being discontinued for them again. I now have two brand new Cyclone shafts just sitting here, waiting for the day when I feel like getting back to them. There's also a brand new one on Ebay right now if anyone wants it. I also buy shafts that I always wanted way back when, but could either never find or never afford at the time, such as the Easton T-Flex. Bought an older one off Krev on this site and then found a brand new one on Ebay, so I bought it too. Also, some are sentimental, so I keep them despite knowing I'll never want to use them in a game. My current list of shafts is:

- Easton A/G 6000

- Easton Cyclone aluminum

- (2) Easton Cyclone graphite (brand new)

- Easton Z-Bubble

- Easton T-Flex (original)

- Easton T-Flex (late 90's)

- Warrior Dolomite

- Easton Si-Core Synergy shaft (on the way)

- Easton MM Z-Bubble Grip (broken)

- Easton Modano Custom 95 T-Flex (broken)

- (2) Easton Cyclone graphites (broken)

- Original Easton Synergy turned into shaft (broken)

- Bauer One95 shaft (broken)

I only use the Dolomite shaft and Z-Bubble now, but am switching to a Synergy Si-Core shaft and Si-Core Z-Carbon blade once they get here, just to go back to an older combo I loved and scored a ton with.

Add one more vote for stocking up a bit on what you like, especially if you can get a good price on it. I have my own stockpile of RLXN10's. Some might call having 6-7 spare shafts overkill, but I've managed to rationalize it to myself.

One downside could be finding something else that you prefer or want to try in future years. I certainly don't think that picking up a few more shafts/blades would hurt. If it's a nice setup, you can always get some of your money back selling it.

One more vote for having more around! I have about 6-7 extras on hand for when my OPS breaks, or they run out of the one I like, and I don't want to switch to a new one (Stealth CNT).

I absolutely love easton shafts...

thanks to Fatwabbit...I now have 3 easton se16 shafts (tapered)

also like the S5 shaft which I have 2 of for ball hockey

and some others

aside from the easton se16, i pretty much try to have 2 of each lying around (10 shafts altogether i think).

I am all about hoarding. When the ones I have break or become unusable, they're a bitch to replace so I just stockpile. I have four AK27s and they're the only ones I have that have been made in the last 7+ years.

I agree with the others here. You can never have too many items of something you like. As many here have already pointed out, you'll be glad you stocked up once the item has been discontinued. I can't even begin to tell you how many items I wish I would have stocked up on back in the day! Old school Bauer undershirts (the light blue w/navy blue cuffs and collar), Canadien 6006 wooden sticks, and Cooper shoulder pads just to name a few. If you really like what you have and have the money to invest in more of them, then by all means do so before it's discontinued. You won't regret it.

All about stockpiling. I have 4 One95 shafts, and three various others that I mix in to experiment with different setups sometimes. I am kicking myself for not loading up on RLXN10's when I had the chance.

Hah! This is MSH, who isn't going to tell you to stock up?

If my preferred shaft was still in production, I wouldn't have more than three. The only reason I stocked up so heavily was because the sticks I use haven't been sold in years.

Don't want to turn this into a "coulda-shoula" thread, but I wish I would've ordered more pro-stock dolomite shafts when HM was blowing them out a few years ago. 240 flex in Polar Fibre = a masterpiece.

just ordered a backup 8k shaft so I have 4 shafts on hand at home and it would be more if I could justify the money spent to the misses. I am insanely afraid that I will run out of sticks that I like and while Im not really someone who is breaking a lot of sticks the fear is still there. A streak of bad luck and your favorite stick is gone forever.

You could have had mine, I hated it! I used it twice then sold it. To be fair though I think a lot had to do with the pro stock mission blade I had in it, but never tried another blade.

I now have 5 shafts, but am planning on having 2 or 3 in rotation (Haven't had a chance to use my X:60 yet, so not sure if I like it). So long as you have 2 or 3 you'll be set, then just stock up on any that you really like if/when they are replaced by a new model.

Mainly, I just take 2 shafts and keep extra blades. All the wood blades on my shafts(i think around 3 or 4) are curved by me. This doesn't usually take away from the durability, but using 2 piece also allows you to swich blades quickly and efficiently without having to blow a fortune. Usually, I'll just replace my blade every 2 months, its only like 20 dollars. So that's not really that much.

Set Up:

TPS Response R8 Pro Stock Wellwood..

Easton Synergy SL

Easton Cyclone

Bauer One 60 blades. Custom curve.

Think a Staal/Ovechkin curve, with a bit more toe.

I think I'm down to 13-15, not counting cut/broken OPS or my little kids' UL's. This is after giving a few as birthday gifts and selling a few. Mostly TPS.
