I haven't seen or used the WarriorProjekt shoulder pads in person, but from the videos I've seen online the rib protection looks to be quite good...better than other high end pads I've seen/used.

Your best bet might be the ST16's. They have plastic inserts in the chest/back area, and a solid plastic rib wrap under your arms. Really protective, but not too bulky. The S19's have a really solid back protector, but the back padding isn't as substantial as the ST16's. I can't really comment on the others as I haven't handled them personally, only models similar to them.

I've been looking for a solid set as well, and am stuck between the Easton ST16 and the RBK 10k. All solid pads, tough looking online as none of my LHS stock either. Ive noticed people here have mentioned sizing works a bit different on the Eastons.

Let us know which you choose.

The Nike/Bauer Supreme Pro Lightspeed shoulder pad is a good possible choice. It has longer padding around the abdominal area, has removable rib protection and plated-protection in the spinal area. If you find these, there is a good chance that you will be able to get them at a pretty good price because the newer branded "Bauer" models are now out (the Lightspeed line is now called the Pro Series).

I'll throw in another +1 for the Easton ST16's. In the end they didn't workout for me because they sat too low on one of my shoulders (old injury that screwed up my clavicle). Other than that, I love them. Those shoulders are tanks. I just prefer my Douglas and Louisvilles because they fit me properly. :P

Nice, I remember seeing the Louisvilles back in the day at the hockeyshop and they look sweet. How did you like the sizing of the easton st16s? im 6' and have a 40" chest/200lbs and fall between the medium and large judging by the sizing charts.

I opted for a Medium. 5' 8" 180lbs with a 42" chest.

Easton Synergy ST16

Reebok 10K

WarriorProjekt

Bauer Vapor X60

Easton S19

Check out the Warrior Hitman or Hustler. The coverages on these two pieces are very good, but also very mobile. The back/rib areas use a multi-layer HD/LD foams that will help to deflect and absorb impact.

Good luck!

Ok, the five pair of shoulder pads arrived, let me first state, i'm 6' 185lbs, and i tried them all on with my Nike Bauer Vapor XXXX Pants. i ordered all 5 in large.

Easton Synergy ST16 - by far the best rib protection, great fit, but they rub up against the spine pad on the pants

Reebok 10K- i could probably wear a medium, good rib protection, rub worse then the ST 16's on the spine pad

WarriorProjekt - i need a medium, they were to big, rib protection is very good, hard football type rib protection

Bauer Vapor X60 - best fit out of all 5 on me, but the worst rib protection, material is very soft around the ribs.

Easton S19- i need a medium, less rub on the spine pad then others, poor rib protection.

I will post pictures later.

To eliminate the rubbing with the ST16, order a medium.

Sounds like the choices are narrowed down to the ST16, 10K and Projekt since you're looking for good rib protection. I'd try those 3 on again without the pants and decide which ones feel the most mobile and comfortable. I'm saying without the pants as then the rubbing on the spine pad won't influence your decision. Once you decide which one you're most comfortable in you can send them all back and order the one you like in a medium.

I'll give a thumbs up for the Reebok 10K and the Easton ST16's. Both offer good rib protection and great mobility as well as good shoulder and collarbone protection. Either one would be a good bang for the buck in my opioion.

Like the use of plastics in the Easton (rib wrap / clavicle protection) but never owned any Easton protective. Would the 10k or the ST16 provide more protection on the sternum? Back protection seems about equal (less the rib wrap).

I'd say they're about even in sternumn protection. I personally liked the way the Easton's fit over the RBK's.

ST16, the plate on the front is wider then the 10k's and the material around the sternum plate is alot denser on the eastons.

i took pictures of all the shoulder pads, But my computer and iphone arent cooperating at the moment!!!!

Both the 10K and ST16 are top of their line shoulder pads and offer very good sternum protection. The only real difference is the shoulder caps which are slightly larger on the 10K's but offer very good protection with their joint displacement protection (JDP) concept. The theory is it deflects the shock of a hit about the bone joint into the surrounding softer and more versitile muscle tissue. If you want a lower profile shoulder pad which is essentially less bulky you can go with the ST16, You still will get great protection because there is a plastic collarbone piece beside the shoulder pad to absorb the shock of a hit. It's a slightly different concept than RBK uses but still works. Both Easton and Bauer shoulder pads use this concept. A lot of hockey players prefer the lower profile pads but it's a personal preference decision you'll need to make.

I like the look of the ST16. Thinking about picking up a pair for myself. Those or the X60 seem to look best fit on you.
