Jofa shin pads aren't deep enough(and the length is off) for me so I don't care that they screwed those up. ;)

Does anybody remember when Crosby was ripped on Ovechkin cause of that commercial he mad pretending to be a rock star, and Crosby was complaining saying he prefers to spend his time at the rink instead of doing commercials. That dink is such a hipocrite(sp?) hes all over Reebok, hes all over Gatorade, and hes all over Tim Horton's, I see more advertising with Crosby on it than Ovechkin...I really dont like Crosby.
Do you have a link or are you just making things up?

To Led head's defense, I, too, have seen more Crosby commercials than Ovy.

But it could be because of the location each one of us reside in. I'm in toronto btw.

I understand 1.4 million is not a lot of money but if I was CCM/Easton/Bauer, I would have doubled that offer and do anything it takes to get his sponsorship. As much as most of us would like to admit, casual sports fans only know 2 names: Ovechkin and Crosby and having that guy head to toe in Reebok gear is marketing gold for the ENTIRE company not just RBK Hockey

See, I would think with how polarizing a figure Crosby is, it wouldn't be worthwhile to throw huge money at him to come to Easton, or especially Bauer. We've all ready seen a few people right here who won't buy Reebok because of Crosby, and tons of casual hockey fans hate him, including casual hockey players who walk into a hockey shop, see Crosby's mug over some gear and probably turn the other way immediately. He's well known, but he is also probably the one player in the NHL that is the most hated.

Why? Because he hits people from behind? Or he pushes cameras? Or because he's never won anything?

It's because he lights your team up on a regular basis.

People don't buy RBK stuff because it sucks, not because Crosby is the face of it.

It's hilarious all the people saying ''I don't buy RBK because of Crosby.'' Riiiggght. You wouldn't buy RBK if Jesus himself used it. It doesn't offer anything that Bauer, Easton, or Warrior doesn't offer.

I'm one of the few Red Wings fans you will find who does not hate Crosby. I love watching the guy play. But you can't ignore the reputation he has gained, deserved or not.

For me it's not so much that I hate him as I prefer Ovechkin, he's the only one who I really LOVE to watch. Crosby just doesn't stand out that much on the ice in my opinion, yes he makes some nice plays here and there but no beastly deke-ing out of two guys and then sniping it top corner.

After Ovechkin I love to watch Kovalchuk, when he turns it up it's just insane.

Maybe it's from watching Nick Lidstrom a lot but I have always been drawn to players with that level of quiet dominance, the guys who can completley control the game and don't get mentioned as often in the highlights.

me too.

i was reading a piece about toews... and he was saying that playing against lidstrom was insanely difficult. he'd go to chip a puck past him and lidstrom would knock it out of the air, when 9/10 it would work against other guys... then toews would throw a saucer pass and lidstrom would knock it down out of nowhere. then he'd go to put a move on him and lidstrom wouldnt bite.

it's one thing to see dominance on the ice, but to hear about it from another superstar is a whole other thing.

I dont like Crosby cause he's a whiny little baby that complains when things arent going his way, he complains to the refs when he's being held back, he starts to play chippy and dirty as he crosschecks and slashes at people on the ice, but somehow never gets called for it, he complained to the refs when Ovi got the hat trick in DC and fans were throwing hats on the ice, asking the refs to tell them to stop cause it was interrupting the game, yet he never seems to mind when its his fans throwing the hats, and he rarely, if ever, gives props to other players and teams when they make good plays, its always how much he or the Pens screwed up and never the other team beating them.

He has skills for sure, but I dont like him as a person and a hockey player.

And for that, regardless of RBK quality, I wont buy it.

That said, Ovi could be a "danger" to endorse as well, considering he's about as polarizing as Crosby is. The two of them, you either love them or hate them, there isnt a lot of in between with either. I would gather that both sell a lot more product than they discourage, but both have the potential to be as bad for a product as good.

Not for nothing but Crosby led the league in slashing calls this season, I think he had 11. And I agree with how Ovie is just as polarizing.

I think that's difficult to blame on him though, he's been grromed for the media since he was something like 7 years old so it's bound to come out sounding rehearsed.

In my opinion most hockey players sound rehearsed bar a few.

Sid is worse than most, he only answers in cliches and the most bland answers one could imagine. Reminds me of the scene in Bull Durham where Costner is giving him the standard lines to use in an interview.

To compare it to basketball

Crosby=Kobe....most hated in the game, but undeniably the best when all the chips are laid out.

Ovechkin=Lebron...puts up amazing stats in the regular season, but takes a back seat when shit gets real.

His five four assists, one goal, and plus minus of -1 in the Montreal series proved that point! :D

And I am tired of hearing people say that Ovechkin is not a team player and Crosby is. Ovechkin had 59 assists and Crosby had 58 this year.

Yeah, I would bet 75% of Ovechkin's assists came off of a rebound from his shot, that some other Cap put in. While Crosby would be the exact opposite.

Crosby is also the more accurate shooter of the two.

Fair, but Kobe deserves the hate a lot more than Crosby does. Hockey fans hate Crosby due to over saturation. NBA fans hate Kobe from what they percieve as a lack of respect for teammates and opponents, and elitist Barry Bonds like attitude, and the selfish way he tore down a dynasty because in his own words, "I don't want to be a sidekick anymore."

Kobe had that run in with the woman in Utah or Colorado, then "bought off" his wife with a gigantic diamond after it. Then he was taunting the Suns coach after hitting a shot in Game 6 this playoff season as well.

So you're saying Ovechkin really only passed the puck for 14 goals? Thats a pretty big overstatement.

I was at a kids birthday party recently and met a sports writer for a calgary paper, I asked him what players are jerks and which players are good to deal with. He said every reporter was impressed with Crosby, all the reporters expect him to give cliche after cliche, but he did say that crosby is always polite to reporters, despite the repetitive questions he gets in every town, and even when the pens PR guy went to shut the scrum down, Crosby said no, and took 5 more mins of questions. Even after a bad loss or being knocked out of the playoffs, the guy is always there to answer questions.

He could be a little more creative with his answers, but if I was asked the same questions after every game, I would give two different responses 1. shut up with the same f**king quesitons or 2. Cliche.

Sid seems to always go with 2.

Can we not have one thread on Crosby or Ovie that doesn't turn into a comparison of the two.

When the worst thing about the guy is that he is a boring interview, he's doing something right.

I got back into hockey just over 2 yrs ago, so I knew nothing of Crosby. All the things that he did that make people hate him so much must have occurred before I started watching Hockey again....cause I just dont see anything that would cause such a reaction.
