Hossa switching it up from Bauer to CCM bucket, skates, stick

can anyone ID what he stick he's using?

Yep...see the U+ at the end of the shaft before the CCM logo. Team color CL. Also good to see people trying the CL boot. I think it will be a hit this year. Nice to see CCM back in the skate race for sure. U+ is a great concept, and as usual it takes a few versions to really perfect a totally new skate design. Having them back in the game is good for everyone...it will continue to spur new technology and innovation.

Speaking of the new Dolomites, went to Total Hockey yesterday and saw them. They're perhaps a little more squared-off in terms of shaft dimension than this past year's. Graphics look good though for the most part. Oh, and the Gionta curve is a pretty nice little toe, especially for retail.

The font on Zetterbergs' name plate is different than usual Red Wings Jerseys.

I also noticed this during last years pre-season Red Wings games. They did not use this font in the regular season though.

That's something that they do every preseason.

The Red Wings use that font on the jerseys just for the preseason. From what I've read they are 'iron on' and then when the season starts the lettering on the jerseys is stitched on. It isn't worth doing the stitched-on arch lettering for everyone if they all aren't going to make the team.

As for Bertuzzi's gloves, it is kind of strange seeing him in actual Easton gloves, not just the cuffs.

Oh any particular reason why? Just to signify it's pre-season?

I'm not sure why the font is different, but in the preseason they use straight nameplates, and during the regular season the names are vertically-arched and direct-stitched. The nameplates probably make it a lot easier on the equipment managers than them having to sew on every letter for an extra 40-odd players.

regular season jerseys dont use nameplates. nameplates are easier to apply. twice as many players in pre season. you do the math.

Not to mention that on vertically arched lettering like the redwings use, the names have to be designed as a unit, with the letters custom cut, or else the arch won't look right. For players who may not even make it in a game, going through all the extra effort makes absolutely no sense.

At the Flyers game tonight saw Zherdev with a light blue stick. no logo, nothing. looked like it may have been just spray-painted. Any ideas?

Considering that the Red Wings have already pre-sold all of their game used jerseys for MORE than it costs them for the jersey + numbering/lettering, the "extra effort" means nothing.

It is all about the money...

That might be true now, but I have no idea how true it was in the past, and they've been doing the nameplate thing for quite a while now, at this point it's tradition.

Was at the Leafs pre-season game last night. Versteeg went from being an all Bauer guy to an all Warrior guy. Any Warrior glove fans will be thrilled at the next equipment sale as there are a bunch of guys that wear Franchises now.

A player can use pretty much whatever they want for sticks so long as they meet the NHL standards. If the company has paid the appropriate fees then they can show the logo/brand, if not then they would have to cover any logos/branding.
