I don't think the NHL would ever ok a jersey for the Winter Classic with no nameplates. I could be wrong, but they want to create familiarity as much as possible.

I can see that being a good reason given the showcase that is the Winter Classic. Would love it for regular season games like Vancouver's throwback

I would have liked to see the 80's blk/yellow/wht, would have been sweet, especially with the Caps going 80's. But I am sure the Pens/NHL/Reebok decided they would see better sales out of the baby and dark blue and in the end, that's all they care about.

not sure if this has been mentioned, but Datsyuk has been switching back and forth between the 11k and the 8.0.8. sticks. I noticed the difference on gettyimages from the Phoenix game last night and the Phoenix game from last week.

It's the same reason why you won't see the Canucks black/yellow/orange, at least for another ten years.

80's = bad mojo for the both of those teams, until the nineties hit, of course, when they both still used them and the Pen's won a couple of cups and the 'Nucks played for one of 'em.

Sentimentality = sales. We're are the soft marketing generation where everyone can remember a past they weren't a part of, and we are preyed upon to support that nostalgia, which we do in droves.

I like the baby blues because I'm a sheep and the colors are calming; they remind me of a time when shit was simpler, although I wasn't born till '83, so I don't really have an idea other than what's fed to me, and it's the same shit, no matter what decade you were born in.

The Canucks throwbacks and the Pens are all good for the xanax generation. throw two teams out there with black/gold/red/orange/silver/yellow and other aggressive colors, and there might me a cornea backlash, which the NHL would feel in non-sales and have to buy ANOTHER warehouse in China to house their overstock.

JR, do you think the Pens with a sky blue/navy blue jersey again because they can just use the gloves and helmets from their current 3rd jerseys? Probably not the whole reason, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.

No, they are going to get all new stuff for the wc anyway for sentimental/memorabilia purposes.

I'm sure they could've worn the same thing if they were flipped.

They are going to adopt them as the new 3rd. I assume they can just resticker all the helmets and reuse gloves.

That stuff will be sold at a large profit to collectors and they will order new gear to match the thirds.

I was speaking that if they went 91-92 yellow and black, not just white with navy/sky accents.

Those are some pretty crazy colors. I actually gotta say that I like the colors. It's nice for them to try and raise awareness.

Okay yeah, but still you get where I'm going. And is that a custom job by rbk, or just paint, or what?

I'm going to say custom job by RBK. Skates look pretty sweet. I bet the black S17's would like look pretty cool too.

Yeah its a custom job by RBK, http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=339265

Colton Orr recently put in a request with equipment manufacturer Reebok to see what they could come up with for the league's Hockey Fights Cancer month. The company delivered hand-painted pink skates for the Toronto forward to wear in Saturday night's game against the New York Rangers.
