MLX Skates Now Available

Recommended Posts

I have noticed the eyelets on my MLX's have been coming off a bit. It seems the inside ring has peeled off and has cut both my tongues when opening up the skate, not to mention my foot as well when I was unaware of the problem at first . I've had to push the protruding metal piece thus far.

I haven't had any problems with the eyelets popping out. However, they do seem to love eating through laces...

A couple of the eyelets on the right skate in my old pair seemed "unfinished" on the inside. They would nick up my feet a bit when I put them on. The left skate was fine though. The eyelets were much smoother.

Hopefully they're fine on my new pair. Scheduled to get here Tuesday.

The laces of mine have taken a beating for sure. I'm thinking over time the eyelets will be affected in some manner.

FrOm the looks of it, the problematic inner eyelet ring can be taken out without any I'll effect on the larger eyelet.... :S

For the ones that have done the switch to Tuuk holders, did you see a noticeable difference?

I wouldnt know, I had mine shipped without holders and undrilled. I havent used a non-tuuk holder since 1997.

An update on my experience.

Ordered the size 7. They got here and felt right after baking. I put them on again after that for about 20 minutes and my pinky toe and the side of my foot under it were killing. They just weren't wide enough. Plus it was tough lacing them up with the lack of depth. I wouldn't say I was busting out of them but it was definitely an issue. So I sent them back and asked if I could get a wider, deeper pair.

Rob accommodated my requests perfectly. I sent them tracings and photos of my feet along with measurements and they fashioned a wider shell for me with a bit more material in the side panels to allow for more depth. Judging by what he said, they should fit me perfectly. Waiting on their arrival now.

Skates came today. Finally got the width right. My toes and forefoot no longer feel cramped at all. Extremely comfortable now. They're a tiny bit deeper but not a huge difference there. Still not passing the pencil test with flying colors but at this point I'll just make them work. Headed to get them sharpened and hopefully get on the ice now.

Let us know how they feel

Have skated on them 3 times now. After the first skate I was feeling a bit of pain on the outside of my left foot. Took a heat gun to it and punched it out with my fingers. Zero pain the 2nd and 3rd skates. They feel as advertised - like a running shoe. Very comfortable. I LOVE the tongue. My favorite of any skate.

I have a question about sizing. I have a possibility of buying a pair of slightly used MLX skates for much cheaper than retail but I'm nervous about the sizing. in Bauer Vapors I wear anywhere from a 5.5 to 6 depending on model. according to MLX's sizing process I'd be a 5 in the MLX. my question is, are the MLX sizing numbers that far off from "your old skates" sizing?

note: I will not have the opportunity to try these skates on.

I personally found the sizing chart off. The chart suggested a 9 for me which was way to big. I ended up with a size 8 which lengthwise feels ever so slightly longer (maybe by an 1/8 size) than a One95 8.

Did you order a 9 first? Did you try to use the insert? I'm interested to hear how that works.

May grab a pair for that price. Just need to figure out the size.

By there sizing chart it puts me in a 12. Never wore a 12 in any other skates.

I usually wear a 10 or 10.5

I'd check your measurements. A few people have ended up with the wrong size while others have ended up dead on.

I wear an 8 vapor, my measurement put me right at an 8 MLX. The fit is nearly perfect. I'm using one of the thinnest spacers at the toe of my right boot.
