Suggestions for adult rec league shoulders

Sherwood 5030's for sure

If theres no contact and no slapshots, these are most likely the way to go

There are most definitely slapshots, this is the main reason I wear shoulders now, I have stopped way too many shots with my skin. I checked out the sherwoods, and IMO I might as well just wear nothing at all, or just a padded shirt.

Wore the shoulders in a pickup tonight, and so far I have no complaints. Very comfortable, not terribly hot, and absorbed some checks very well(some guy decided adult pickup was full check).

Didn't jarick say he wears rbk?

I meant in the sense that just because a shoulder pad is top of the line doesnt always mean it has the best fit.

I went from old Jones football-like shoulder pads to Vapor XXXX shoulder pads when I started playing mens' league. Light, flexible, breathe well and unfortunately, took a slapshot to the shoulder tonight and somehow got hit between padding. No fun!

Found my CCM V06's to be quite nice. Just enough protection for the odd collision with plenty of mobility and comfort.

Farrell with all pads worked well but were too hot. I have done some surgery on older 6K pads and have found the perfect look and feel for me ymmv

I switched from Bauer 5000s to RBK 6K padded shirt (7K would be your option now) and haven't looked back. It's not a ton of protection, but it's something. I've taken a puck or two and it stung, but nothing more than a bruise.

I've been playing w/ Itech shoulders similar to these and they do the job.

But this thread got me looking at all the newer ones which have more collar bone protection. I was wondering if they really work, how much hotter is it like wearing one like this? Has anyone here or know anyone that break their collar bone wearing this type?

Is that for contact hockey? I've never been hit in the collar bone.

The newer shoulder pads seem to move and breathe better than the ones from a few years ago. They are made in 2-3 pieces front and back which moves better and it seems they are putting padding more "strategically" rather than covering every square inch of the body.

A guy got his collar broken in a non contact league, incidental contact happens.

Used the 4k's tonight. Aside from being really big on me (which is weird because they seemed just fine the last several times I tried them on), I didn't notice them at all. Very light weight and mobile.

I would personally stick to the 4K's Jarick. For an adult recreational league they should offer you more than adequate protection against shoulder injuries. The shoulder pads are heavy duty enough to withstand an awkward fall against the boards or on the ice, and against the odd player who get carried away and throws an errant body check your way.

Yeah I just need to size down. Great pads.

I use the Farrell's after not using shoulder pads for about 13 years of rec hockey using nothing. My biggest concern was keeping my mobility so I got what I wanted and they are holding up good after about 3 years of use. Took the shoulder caps off and throw them in the wash machine when they start to stink. 6 feet tall, 190 lbs and I wear a small so the people who do the sizing must all be on steroids.

I agree with Althma1 I have a pair of Farrells with the caps removed and I love them. Light, comfortable, and protective. Also a plus, Machine washable!

Good Luck with your quest.
