Red Wings 2010-2011

Never bet on your team!

I haven't been able to catch any games, but I picked up Holstrom off waivers for fantasy... what's the deal with his season? He hasn't gotten many points for me.

He's getting shuffled around a lot. Seems a lot of teams are playing effective shut down against the Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom line and Babcock's been trying to find a way to shake it, splitting Pavel and Hank, pairing Cleary or Bertuzzi on the top line, shuffling Holmstrom back to the 3rd/4th area.

I can't tell if the constant roster and line changes are helping or hurting. They just sent Kindl down so he could actually get some games in since the D has been working pretty well, but now especially with Draper back they've got 1-2 too many forwards and none of the lines feel like they're being given a chance to mesh.

It feels like they're playing with one 1st Line and three 3rd Lines. Some of the players have even said in interviews that although they're doing pretty well they still haven't played a game they're happy with.

I feel like Holmstrom is just slowing down Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

The problem is I feel like he would slow down every line. There is not a single line that he would improve.

Basically, if he isn't in front of the net, he is useless.

So Lidstrom with his firs hat trick last night which was pretty exciting (free curly fries lol). Lately the Wings have been playing pretty well , the LA game was interesting, (Quick with 51 saves unheard of), but they're back on track now which is good to see. Big divisional game against Chicago tomorrow night.

Sadly I agree with you, but he's worth it in front of the net on the PP.

Thats debatable. The fact that Holmstrom can screen goalies is the whole basis of our power play. So basically they pass 23410324 times and take shots from bad angles or purposely miss the net in hopes that Holmstrom will tip it.

Holmstrom would slow most other lines down but imo you cant put him anywhere else, Datysuk and Zetterberg pick up the slack so to speak in the defensive zone when hes out on the ice but on the PP and in most cases when hes infront of net he is definetly an awesome player to have there...is and always will be one of the best

Homer is a big reason why Datsyuk, Zetterberg and the D men are able to do what they do. He creates alot space from the hash marks down so those two can do what they do best. He goes into corners and behind the net to work the puck back out. There is no one better in front of the net; he blocks out the D, screens goalies, creates confusion and can deflect shots. The guy takes more beatings then a $5.00 whore and keeps on coming back. Cleary may be faster and Franzen has better hands but Holmstrom seems to make that line work just a little better.

That was the most half assed effort I've ever seen in my life. Didn't even look like the wanted to play. Give some of the kids in the AHL a chance on the big club. they would have put one of the hawks through the boards or started a fight just because they want to earn a spot....way to soft of an effort tonight

If you think going out and putting someone through the boards or starting a fight will get someone a job on the Wings you must not have watched them much over the last decade or two.

The Wings have always been finesse over force. There's no need to go and change that because of one bad game.

When you are getting your ass kicked, that is exactly what you do. Ever play a high level of hockey?

Detroit couldn't sustain any pressure and they were getting straight up outworked...seems to be a recurring theme these days. Not even the grinders are getting after it like the used to. Guys like Emmerton or Mursak would wreck shop given a call up just because they want to play in the NHL.

Bottom line is last night, nobody played with any heart. This is why I say they needed a fight or something gutsy just so the guys on the bench could mentally get into the game.

The Wings have had more than just one bad game in the last two weeks....cough cough getting killed by Atlanta

I don't know about Chadd's hockey skills, but I have played at a high enough level and more importantly, one of my buddies is a Red Wings draft pick. Chadd is right, an AHL player starting a fight or running someone in the NHL isn't going to earn them a spot in the lineup. You have to pay your dues (especially with the Red Wings - they are all about tenure), make the right plays, and prove to the staff that you belong there each and every night.

When you're getting your ass kicked, one of two things happen. You turtle, or you come back and stand up to it. The Red Wings turtled, and the end result was a loss.

Once Osgood gets his 400th win, I'm fully expecting Howard to get the majority of the starts. I'll be quite surprised if he doesn't. They play better with Howie in net.

The Wings haven't played that way in something like 20 years and my level of play has nothing to do with their style of play or organizational philosophy. If you were talking about the Flyers or Bruins, I would have agreed with you. The Wings have done things differently for a long time and have been the best organization in the league during that time.

Datsyuk out 4 weeks with a broken wrist. Couldn't have come at a worse time. Probably the most packed part of the season, schedule wise, and being under 5-6 this month, its a pretty bad time to lose the best forward. Time for a lot of guys to step up, most notably Hudler. There are linesman who are responsible for more goals than Hudler so far this season.

sooo shattered about hearing 4 weeks for datsyuk, thats a big loss....there big shoes to fill and every player needs to step up, zetterberg did it today lets see if anybody can get it done tomorow

Cleary - Bertuzzi - Fillupula (dunno how to spell it) all had good games today aswell, work ethic was there

not good, cleary is out for a month with a broken ankle :( its happening again :'(

At least today Hudler stepped up and scored. I was happy to see Osgood get his 400th he really earned it with 46 saves, also Flippula(sp) gave the puck away so many times today and it seemed like every time he shot it would either hit someone in the shins or miss the net by ten feet.

Hudler looked a bit relieved in the interview during the game. Hopefully this will break him out of the scoring slump; they need him to step up and produce.

Tomas Tatar with a goal in his NHL debut, albeit a lucky one, they don't ask how but how many lol

That kid is gonna be something special to watch. Anyone who is a fan of the WJC could probably agree
