I would assume he used the smaller curve to keep the shot down, they were saying the higher you shoot the lower the mph would be. look at ovechkin, he kept shooting high and therefore the shot couldn't be read

Looks like the puck was closer to the net at the KHL game than the NHL one... Which would skew the mph/kph.

As long as there's enough room for the radar to get a reading I'm not sure that would make a difference..?

The further away from the net the puck is, the longer the distance it has to travel, thus causing the puck to decrease in speed over distance traveled. The shorter the distance, the higher the velocity.

Essentially, just the KHL cutting corners as always.

A small difference in distance can mean a big difference in shot speed. I'd imagine that if they matched up release points Chara would be closer to Weber, Chara's release point looks a good foot or more in front of everyone else.

Chad Kilger and Shawn Heins have both put up 106+ in the north america, but they only count the NHL all star game for the most part.

I understand S = D/T, however the reading would be affected by the point and which the reading was taken (the distance), not the distance from the net. The net doesn't measure the speed.

Air friction slows the puck down as it's travelling through the air.

I knew there was a Leaf player with a 106+ shot a few years back. Couldn't remember who it ws (didn't bother to look). Thanks.

Radar gun calibration is also a reason you cannot compare the two shots.

Sorry if I'm highjacking a little bit, but didn't Sheldon Souray hit 106 at the Oil's skills comp? Also, I'd be down for a Team KHL vs Team NHL game.

I think he did. Jonathan Ericsson hit 106 at a skills comp with the Griffins.

I'd love to see NHL vs KHL but it would never happen.

They have no problem comparing one year to the next and you still have the calibration issue there.

It's not exactly the Guinness World Records though is it, the whole thing is just for fun. Like previous posters have said, it's only taking into consideration those who get an invite to the All Star game and it's not like Sheldon Souray (or any lesser pro's with rockets) are getting an invite any time soon..
