Bauer APX - £699.99?

Recommended Posts

Just received an email, detailing the price of the Bauer APX skates will be £699.99 on release here in the UK.

At this rate, it's not going to be long before someone hits £1,000 for a pair of skates.

I own Nike One95's and other top end skates as I'm a bit of a gear whore but this price left me a little...disgusted.

I honestly could not justify that just for a pair of skates that will get wrecked just the same during games. (I know high end materials come into play, but you get the gist)

Anyone know where the skates will be produced? China? If so, this is probably where I am irked the most.

Venting steam lol

ps - I am a total Bauer/Nike gear whore btw, it was more a Q regarding the market and way it's headed!

It is getting ridiculous. At the end of the day Bauer is a business and if they can sell their skates for that much good for them. Totalone's flew off the shelves so this gives Bauer more incentive to raise the price.

I read the spec on them, and they didn't seem much different from the current range, albeit a pair of Vapors with the flex tongue (custom order only apparently)

Not enough of a difference to justify the cost thats for sure :) although it will be good to see a review.

Seems like its always Bauer thats raising the price which the others then follow suit. As you say, the TO's flew off the shelves despite their cost.

I'm sure a lot of folk will pay that for them, but for me...it's just become a little bit too silly price wise when i think of what else I could get for that.

The apx are pretty much going to be like the totalones but with a supreme cut. The alive composite, comfort edge, fusion steel and 4 holes at the bottom of the boot will make its way onto the apx.

APX will be the same price as TotalOne.

Yes, prices are very high, 849.99$ in Canada, but a lot of people do buy them.

The retail pricing of top-of-the-line skates really confuses me. Someone please correct me if my facts are wrong, but for example, the TotalOnes are manufactured in China and sell for $799 retail, while the CCM U+CLs are made in Canada and sell for $599 retail. Both are the top-end skate for each company. Is there an objective reason for the higher price of the Bauers? Are the materials more expensive? Maybe all the R&D costs? An extra $200 is a big achievement if its all based on marketing and brand image.

The reason I mention China vs. Canada is the assumption that, as else equal, products can be made in China cheaper. And I'm pretty much a Bauer-ho btw, so I am not hating on Bauer.

You're paying for the name. If someone came up to you and said "I got a pair of TotalOnes, and U+CL's, without trying them on pick one." 90% of people would pick the Bauer skate, just becuase it's Bauer. That's what happens when your known as the best skate company, you can royally rip people off

The prices are determined by one thing, the market. Right now people are willing to pay $800-ish for a Bauer skate but the same can't be said of CCM. That may change in the future as CCM seems to be coming along but for right now, Bauer owns the market and they know that there are people out there who will pay what they're asking.

A lot of you guys are forgetting one95s were map at 650. One100 dropped to 600 bc its the same skate different tongue.

Now the to with just the fusion steel alone woulda been 700, plus rd and lighter newer materials. Thus800 price.

Skates won't pass 1000, ever. Also the to vs xl debate is sorta ridiculous, as the one100 is the same quality of the cl. Just because something is the top end for a certain market doesn't mean its on par with another companies best. Example? Pretty sure we wouldn't compare best mission skate with best bauer with best torspo.

You WILL see a $1,000+ skate in the future.

And for the record, I'd place my Mission S500's above any skate that I own. INCLUDING my custom One95's. They were that good.

I wanted to go with missions, I tried to go with Missions..... Contacted them directly to get an answer..... They did not do customs for the general public (at least when I was trying to give them money).

No one is holding a gun to your head making you buy them. Most companies offer multiple models/price points to fit most comfort zones- financial and performance. Just as you may not personally want to drop more than a certain amount on a pair of skates, there will always be a segment of the market that can and will to have the latest and greatest.
