APX vs. X60

Recommended Posts

At my lhs tonight, and saw the APX in a glass display case with a digital countdown. To me, the skate looks a little wider than the X60's. I had to sell my X60's because they were hurting my the sides of my feet where the toe box started.

My Vapor XXXX's didn't bother me at all. Both were a 6.5D. Just wondering if the APX will be a bit more roomy than the X60 in a D width.

If so, I may wait until the 29th to get a new pair of skates...

Anyone know about the APX fit? Or actually try them on??

Has Jr or Chad commented on the fit of this skate yet?

I believe a few times. Check the Bauer 2011 catalog thread. The dude in the video said they have better heel lock, if that's the case, I'm sold.

I tried on a pair and my heel definitely felt like it was snug and fit compared to the X:60s. It allowed me to maneuver better and foot felt with a more forward pitch.

I'm sure once the skate is worn more often the feeling flattens out a little, but after putting the X:60s back on it felt more open.

I would say the APX may be my next skates

And the width is it the same as the x60 or like the supremes. I would love to have them, but the vapors in D too tight and EE too wide, D in Supremes are perfect. I hope they are supreme like widths.

Thanks

For me, the depth of the total ones was no good. Plus, where the flex tongue was connected to the toe cap was putting pressure on the top of my foot. Hard to explain.

I find the Supreme line a wee bit too wide in the heel pocket and mid-foot, but perfect in the forefoot, and the toe cap.

If the fore foot and toe cap are ok, the APX may be perfect.

Does anyone know if the APX is done on a over-sized last?

I know this is not regarding fit....but I held an APX skate the other day at pro hockey life in Hamilton, Ont....two things that stuck with me are:

1)The skate is unbelievably light...I mean it weighs nothing!

2)The tongue on the skate looks like its paper thin? When I held the skate and looked at the tongue, I thought to myself " How could you wear this skate, and not get lacebite"??

To be totally honest I thought the skates looked cheap, Remember this is just my opinion, but after inspecting the skate, I could forsee issues with durabilty....I hope I'm wrong?

Cheers

You're not offending me but your assumption is wrong, especially since you have never tried them on. I tried them on in October when Bauer introduced the skates to dealers. If people are not positive about the information, they should wait to confirm their assumption before posting. Seems simple but lately a lot of people here can't seem to figure it out.

If a skate is deep enough for you, you shouldn't get lacebite. Even so it still has a metatarsal built in the tongue to help stop lace bite.

The APX is actually wider in the forefoot than an X:60. This information has been on MSH for months now.

Does the X7.0 still fit like the X60 or is it also wider?

How much wider in the forefoot? Is the toe box a little wider? The heel?

Sorry for all the questions. I passed up a great deal on a pair of skates because I want to try the apx on first.

How did you find the fit darkstar?

8D x60 fitted me like a glove, i tried 8D totalone a month ago, they were somehow too long, very loose and felt soft...

i tho the totalone were stiffer than the x60, hopefully the apx will fit me good or i will keep my x60 even tho they start being beated up!

Everyone's questions about APX fit will be answered at the end of April when they are delivered to LHS. I would suggest waiting until then, get fitted at the LHS, and support the LHS with your purchase.

I can tell you that the APX feels wider in the forefoot than the X:60s. Because they are designed to lock your heel, the forefoot is wider in order to achieve that result. It's going to be a very popular skate for the Pros, that is for sure.

I'll probably wait till a good deal on a Pro Stock 10- 10.5 EE show up on eBay.

why pro-stocks? Wouldn't the skate be custom to whichever pro it was made for?
