NHL considers banning "Green Men"

Recommended Posts

Hardly........

"Wasn't that game 7 great, son?"

"I suppose."

"How about that goal to win the series, exciting stuff."

"I guess."

"Come on, Billy, didn't you enjoy the game?"

"Kinda."

"What's wrong?"

"I didn't get to see the Super Fan."

Moral of the story: If you need a "Super Fan" to make the game entertaining for you then you are not a fan of hockey. The game is the entertainment.

Because no man should be seen in head to toe spandex.

As my buddy said last week, "their units are hanging out in those suits and If I took my son to a game and sat behind them I wouldn't want them prancing around in front of me in spandex, show all, outfits." He'd prefer to just watch the game and I kind of agree.

If they're so important to the experience in Vancouver, put them on the payroll. And that goes for the "look at me" people in every other rink.

I'm still waiting to hear of a legitimate reason for the league office to force these guys to stop, other than "I just don't like it."

I think they're stupid too. I just think they're well within their rights and the NHL is completely overreacting and setting an awful precedent.

And here I thought people bought tickets to a hockey game to go and watch a hockey game.

If I'm buying a ticket to a hockey game, I'm expecting a lot more than just watching a game. If I just want to watch a game, I'll watch it from home.

The NHL has final authority over any and all aspects of an NHL game. If they don't want a particular type of behavior, they absolutely have the right to stop that behavior.

I think it's silly. Ask the team/arena to work with them and exchange their seats to a set not next to the penalty box and tell the broadcasters to not put cameras on them. Problem solved.

Detroit has Mo Cheese, an old guy who wears a custom "MO CHEESE" jersey and does a cabbage-patch-on-acid dance once a game, and the only camera time he gets is when they're already putting the camera on random people in crowd texting or waving or something. He is, however, slightly iconic since he's literally at every game and always has his giant Stanley Cup hat come playoffs.

Well they do play a 3-Stooges song for Mo Cheese to dance to...

I wish the league would spend its resources on consistent application of discipline, rather than worrying about stuff like this.

And if the problem is too much TV time for the Martians, they can address it with the TV networks. If the other folks at the game don't have a problem, and the team doesn't have a problem, why put the squeeze on these particular fans? And if their behavior becomes a problem, why not address that, rather than their outfits?

Maybe the league is just trying to divert attention away from real issues that their failing at.

It couldn't possibly be because other teams have complained about them, could it?

Isn't the dancing fat guy Shawny Hill officially on the Flyer's payroll?

Way to totally skirt the question that was asked.

I think that's what the NHL is actually doing, according to the Yahoo article. Cutting the handstands and pounding on the glass.

There seems to be sentiment here for more than that, to which I was responding.

I dont really get this. So they aren't aloud to hit the glass, but every other fan in the front row is? Or is this rule only pertaining to the penalty box glass? I can understand the no handstands rule, what if the fall, kick a kid in the face, and he gets hurt, but the glass thing doesn't make any sense to me.

ahhahahaha unless someone can enlighten me, their page in the link only states that the NHL is CONSIDERING to ban them.

1 : They have no evidence (link) to illustrate this AT ALL on their page

2 : Even if the NHL WAS considering, they are doing just that.. CONSIDERING, they probably consider many many things about the game that would make any fan angry LOL

Unless someone can show me otherwise, this is a publicity stunt.

edit : nvm, I found something on tsn

The first time I saw their hilight reel, I thought it was hilarious. The waffle thing was great, the santa's list was great, and the handstands were great. That being said, their whole gig is starting to get wore out. It's like the kid that tells a funny joke, everyone laughs, carries on etc.. then the kid starts telling it every single day. Looses it's zeal after a season or two.

I think a lot of you are ignoring the fact that the NHL is a private business, and they're allowed to run their business any way they want as long as they adhere to the laws. If the laws say they can't stop people from dressing certain ways, then they'll stop "considering" this ban immediately; conversely, if the law allows them to impose a ban, they'll have to weigh the plusses and minuses of taking such an action. My guess is the NHL worries that others seeking attention will likely try to one-up their competition. so the NHL wants to set a precedent to prevent that from happening.

If the NHL actually bans this just because other teams complain, that would be some kinda messed up. There are a lot of things that teams don't like opposing fans doing. Cheering for goals. Chanting the goalie's name. Making noise in general. If the grown men on your professional hockey team can't handle two idiots in green spandex during stoppages in play, maybe they should find a different job.
