Montreal Canadiens 2011-2012 Thread

So that's apparently the reason why. Pulled him from the bench, told him he'd been traded, and wouldn't say where.

Classy move, Montreal.

In my opinion as of right now I think Montreal won the trade. Cammalleri and Bourque are both streaky, Cammalleri is probably more of a pure scorer. Montreal loses the rights to rammo who would've never played here, they get a 2nd rounder which could be a high pick because Calgary isnt hat high in the standings and Montreal gains cap space.

Thoughts?

I dunno if Bourque realizes the shit show he's walking into. Saw his comments:

"I don't speak French either and I've got the Frenchest name on the team now"

,,,probably not a good idea to hand the sword to the executioner!

On the "team with the best player wins" theory of trading, Calgary clearly won today; if the Habs are able to use the cap space to get someone else, or if Bourque goes on a tear, that may change.

Bourque has shown glimpses of coming into his own but has yet to make the jump to consistent contributor. I don't see much of Montreal's roster making Bourque any better unless he develops chemistry with Plekanec but I doubt that will happen. Bourque needs one of those silky passing centers.

How about the d*rt bag PK Subban's elbow to the head of David Krejci consequently proceeding to turtle up like the douche that he is when Ference came to give him a whooping... Then laughs the whole thing off like an elbow to the head is a laughing matter...

Subban reminds me of crosby the first year he was in the league with the whining and chirping and stuff - hopefully he grows out of it. He might actually get some respect from opposing players once he does.

Apparently, they had to wait for the flames game to start in the west before making the trade official so Bourque would have one less game to serve on his current suspension.

Playing against a team that's tougher than you is not a license to take runs at their skill players, or anyone for that matter. If anything, the fact that he was playing against the Bruins should serve as a deterrent against that type of play, or at least PK should know that against them there is a zero percent chance that he'll get away with that without having to answer for it.

I don't think PK spat at him! He fist bumps the teammate and turns to spit off the bench as Del Zotto skates by. I think that camera angle makes MDZ look a lot closer to the bench than it actually was. The Habs won that night...no fun in reporting that without a controversy attached...espcecially this season. TSN's John Liu was the one who told him/them it happened.

I really want to see Pierre McGuire hired if the GM spot opens up. I know some people hate him on broadcasts but there is no denying how much he knows about the league, the players and the players coming up. He understands the culture of Montreal and has a couple cup rings as well.

There is a reason his name hasn't been bandied about when openings come up around the league. Also, pretty easy to know the players and stuff when that is your job to know the players and stuff.

You also can't get blinded by admiration for certain players and he has that problem in spades.

Not a bad trade by Gauthier. Bourque and Cammalleri have similar numbers in the last two years or so. Ramo, who knows if he'll ever come back and play for an NHL team. A second round pick is pretty good and offers some potential if the scouting staff doesn't screw that up.

Subban, I'm just unable to like him. I can live with some of his mistakes but he makes so many that he's too much of a liability on defense. If he at least had the points to counter balance everything it wouldn't be so bad. But now the league knows how he plays and know how to counter him and he's just become inefficient at everything. He doesn't seem to be a locker room favorite either. I also dislike how he turns his back when he goes for the big hit. It's so weird the way he does that and he already got fooled more than once trying to throw a big hit. He needs to smarten up in all aspects of the game but seems to be too much of a hot head to do so.

Mcguire's name circulated at some point to become the GM in St-Louis if memory serves me right. I don't particularly like or hate him. Seems to know his hockey and seems to be have a legitimate shot at a GM job some day. Would he be the guy for Montreal? I don't know. There is a lot of speculation out there. Jacques Martin is still under contract with the Habs, technically, so they could always offer the GM position to him if they were to fire Gauthier. Probably unlikely but still possible. Serge Savard's name is circulating a lot as well as Vincent Damphousse's name.

They need to get rid of Bob Gainey once and for all though. He apparently still has his word to say in day to day hockey operations. If it's the case, he needs to get tossed before they decide to bring a new guy in.

I think it's safe to kiss the playoffs goodbye for this season so hopefully the Habs will be able to trade some players out for decent picks, prospects or younger players. There are some players that have some value for playoff bound teams. Gill and Moen come to mind as added experience and/or grit. The trade deadline should be quite interesting...

His name came up when TB and MIN were looking to fill their gm spots.

I'm sure Pierre became a Gm he knows he cant talk on and on about certain players.

Not to mention the fact that his supposedly "encyclopaedic" knowledge of hockey is only describable as such if you account for volume exclusive of comprehension.

PK on the tear down he got during that game:

“Obviously coaches and players are never going to agree on absolutely everything. But at the end of the day I’m 22 years old and honestly, it doesn’t really matter what I think. He’s going to tear a strip off me again this year – probably a couple of times! But if we’re going to make a big deal out of it every time, it’s not beneficial to our team,” continued Subban who is still honing his skillset while already averaging more ice time than any other Habs blue liner at 23:55 per game. “He does it to all the other young guys, and even the older guys, too, when they need it. He’s a coach, and whenever you guys ask me, I always say I’m trying to get better everyday – part of getting better is being coached.”
