Why do people hate the Canucks?

Recommended Posts

All fantastic. That's seriously wonderful. Again, a lot of people didn't start disliking them until the finals last year.

It seems like most of the people that started disliking them last year were Bruins fans. Especially in this topic.

The point he was making, and it is a legitimate one, is that people tend to dislike when another team has success. He isn't saying that it was the only reason.

The Red Wings have been great for years and years. Why isn't there a "why do people hate the Red Wings?" thread.

And I think a lot of people got to see them on a much larger stage in the finals, and it's not just Bruins fans that started disliking them until the finals.

Because their fans just assume it is because of their success.

In all honesty, success is the only reason to hate the Red Wings. And this is coming from a guy who hates the Red Wings :)

the only real other reason you would hate the red wings is because of Todd Bertuzzi but thats only a single player. There is so much more to love about them

Lidstrom

Datysuk

Zetterberg

3 of the most classiest players in the world playing on the same team.

I'm ready to break some new ground here by saying, as a person who watches the Canucks with some hockey knowledge and roots for them to win, over being a "Canucks Fan"...........I don't hate the Bruins. This is a tough one to admit as I like to argue against them all the time with my buddies, but this is only because they have no knowledge of the Bruins whatsoever as the majority of them are bandwagoners who were Sens and Leafs fans mere weeks before (no, I`m not saying all Leafs and Sens fans are all bandwagoners because they did not have success last year.) They try to argue points with me when their knowledge comes from 7 games they played in June. But back to the point, I do not hate the Boston Bruins. I like a good bunch of their players, including, and this pains me to say, Chara. How can you not like Seguin. They also have two players who I really enjoy to watch; Peverly and Zanon.

Just thought I`d get that of my mind

This. I'm a New York guy, through and through, so of COURSE I had to root against Boston in the Finals last year. That lasted until halfway through the second game, when I started to root FOR them because of all the nonsense that Vancouver was pulling. It killed me to cheer for anything Boston related.

^ This, combined with how badly Vancouver was playing. I didn't have much choice but to root for Boston at that point.

I also disliked the antics the Canucks were pulling in the SCF, the Bruins were doing the same an that's why I dislike them, so Im cool with that. It's funny how bad Vancouver played and it still took 7 games. If they played well it would be a different story. But yes, they played like crap during the finals.

It was crazy how close the first three games in Van were compared to the games in Boston. Blowout city at the Garden, one goal games in Vancouver.

Anyway, I feel like the question really got answered. Seems like the consensus is the perceived pulling of antics. Whether or not VAN fans think that those antics are worse than what other teams pull is another issue.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that the Canucks played very well at home in games 1, 2 and 5.

I don't forget, I just think the blowouts far outweigh the ability to squeak out a win at home. Games 1 and 2 really could have EASILY gone either way. I think overall Vancouver is VERY lucky that it didn't end in games 4 or 5.

Precisely.

I'm a big Canucks fan, but it is very easy for me to see why EVERYONE hates us.. from what I can tell, a lot of Canucks fans have a false sense of entitlement, the official game twitter was hashtaging #reigningCanucks last night, reigning what? We didn't win anything.

The team is a very skilled team, but with players like Lapierre, Burrows and Kesler I would hate a team that had an arsenal of chirpy good players like that. Tough watching guys get under your skin like that. Sort of how I feel about Marchand, for a non Bruins fan I think he is a stain, but as a hockey player you cant put a price on how big of a boost players like that give your team.

Lately, the Canucks have also taken lots of dives, and played lackluster hockey in my opinion. Too much complaining and not enough puck in the net.

A bit of gold from the LA Kings official twitter

I just about died laughing when I read about that :D

^ This about sums it up, really.

I'd love to see people shut the fuck up for once, but that won't happen, especially when the US broadcats are so incredibly biased.

I wouldn't say they are biased, I'd just say the ESPN announcer is beyond irritating to listen to. I'm not sure what you're referring to, regarding the first part of what you said. Shut up about what, exactly?

Absolutely agree!!! I live an hour from Vancouver and am a fan but I would rather watch #14, #17 and #40 for the Canucks play a hard skating physical game than be lippy assholes after the whistle!

There's a time and a place for it, but for me it is a lot more fun (and easy) to chirp at players with a couple goal cushion. I don't think they should change their style of play, but I think it's much more effective defending a lead rather than chasing one. Plus, you look like an idiot running your mouth/spraying goalies when you're down goals.

One thing that strikes me after reading all the responses is, "Who cares whether other people like or hate my team?????"

I know a large percentage of fans hate Boston teams, probably because Boston fans have a smug way about themselves, especially at the other teams' stadiums. But you know what? I couldn't care less if every other fan in the world hated the team I root for.

That's the fun part of being a Boston fan.

Also a good point I suppose. Maybe Vancouver fans are just butthurt.

You think I didn't realize people hated the Leafs in their Darcy Tucker years, even more so than usual? Though I do long for a respectable club, like it once was in the Gilmour/Clark era... They're too much of a joke now :(
