Tapered Blade Selection

Recommended Posts

I currently have an X60 blade that cracked and did not hold up to it's T1 counterpart. What TAPERED blade currently holds up in regards to puck feel and durability?

I didn't mind the ping feeling so the feel and durability are the top 2 preferences.

Thoughts?

I've had good luck with Harrow blades. I really like the blade feel and it works for me comming from a One95.

But coming from a X60 blade it may feel a bit dead. That's just my opinion. RE: Durability they have held up

I was using my harrow blade as a back up and it seems pretty solid over all. 5-10 games for me no complaints.

A guy on my team has used one for full season and swears by them.

I've had great luck with Warrior Dolomite blades.

Me too. The durability along the heel is questionable but the puck feel is amazing IMO.

I'll second the Harrow recommendation. Not the lightest blade, but good feel and great durability.

Do Harrow tapered blades still have the longer hosel compared to other brands? Aside from that, they are good quality for the price point and come in a variety of clone patterns.

I will also give another vote for Dolomite. I got one for great deal brand new, but the curve was not for me, and got rid of it after a couple times using it.

I ended up going with the Warrior Dynasty as I had good experience with feel with the Dolomite blades but had hit and miss with durability. If that goes, I will probably try the 11k or Harrow next. I also have the question regarding the Harrow blades as before the hosel was longer than a regular tapered blade. Is that still the case?

I know the Dynasty is at least 1/2" to 3/4" longer in the hosel than the X60 blade, but that actually helped my decision as I have an inch extension that is about 1/4" to 1/2" too long for the curve I ordered (Kovalev heel curve).

The Harrow blades I have are the same hosel length as the Warrior Dolomite blades I also use.

I love my Dolo shaft but the blade heel cracked so I'm looking for a new one. I want to try a Dynasty blade, but why is it most of their blades have a lie of 4? I would like 5-6.

For what its worth here, I do not use 2 pieces but I sell a ton of tapered blades. Bauer is the most popular, but for durability I would vote for the Harrow and Warriors. CCM CS and RBK 11ks seem to break around the same rate, and easton EQ50/SE16s broke around the same rate as vapors. But Harrows and Warriors have held up very well for the people who bought them.

With the Harrow it is a taller hosel length so if you go with that, you better be committed to the Harrow blades, as you will need to cut your shaft down to get the same length as another company.

Well, for what it's worth, I've used a ton of Warrior sticks/blades in the last year and a half (three Dolomites, two Widows, five AK-27 blades).

They're all terrible as far as blade durability is concerned. Had a few break at the heel, some in the middle of the blade, and one in the hosel.

I keep going back because they perform well and I love the feel. So, even though they don't last, I do like them.

That said, I did just buy an APX blade, paired with a Dynasty shaft. I've only had the opportunity to use it twice because of an injury, so I can't really comment on it too much. It felt pretty good, though. Didn't have too much of an issue adjusting to it.

My widow held up for 10 months or so and when it broke, it did so at the taper, not the blade.

My Easton EQ50 blade held up great from Aug til about a month ago. But it got stuck in the boards when I got hit so I guess theres nothing that going to hold up to that haha.
