Really? Why's that? Would anyone who's Irish be offended by being called an Irishman?

Only if I wasn't offered a guiness.

Is this a beer forum or a hockey forum? But...I think the Irish and British drink most of their stuff at room temperature. Brings out the taste. I have to go with The Bouce on this one, Guinness warm is not a bad thing. I guess a little brew talk aint so bad, considering hockey players been known to kick back a few here and there. Haha, didn't Joe Thornton get arrested in his local bar in Ontario (St. Something) after boozin it up? A lot of players get into to alcohol/bar/arrests come to think of it.

Warm Guinness is alright, i just prefer it ice cold. I usually buy it and let it sit in my freezer for an hour or two. I guess thats why i'm only part Irish, and not entirely.

Guinness at room temperature is good. Don't know what you guys are talking about...

But Guinness is supposed to be served at cellar temperature. Not quite chilled like refridgeration but still about 5-7 degrees Celcius cooler than room temperature. :D

because people are over-sensitive and petty. ;)

Probably because "Irishman" is not thought of as a derogatory term, while "Chinaman" is. The term is out of date and inappropriate. It is ignorant to believe otherwise.

It's not over-sensitivity or pettiness. It's as if I were to call you white guys "redneck inbred sister f!@#ers." Inappropriate, yes?

Why am I not surprised that another white, heterosexual male is telling an ethnic minority that reacting to an obviously derogatory term is being "overly sensitive?"

Stop being a dumb white cracker and wake up to the 21st century.

See, I guess I would qualify as a "redneck inbred sister fucker". I mean, that's what I'm called based on your qualifying system. Personally, I don't consider myself that. However, I'm not so petty as to be offended if someone called me a redneck. Why? Because I know that people say things that are not true and are products of their own biases and insecurities. In the same way, being called a canadian man or some other interpretation or the expression would be absolutely no big dea....china man...who really gives a shit...by the basis of elementary logic if one is from china and one is a man, then one is a china man. Honestly, even as a university educated and liberal person, it disgusts me with how sensitive people are towards these kinds of things. There is a good chance, that if people make a comment that is personally insulting towards you, it is because they are unhappy or unsure of who they are. It has nothing to do with you. Lighten up.

Yes, elementary logic would dictate that a man from China would be called a "Chinaman," however, the term is no longer acceptable in modern society, just as the N-word is no longer acceptable. If we are all individuals living in a society with common civilities, then shouldn't we all be more careful and sensitive towards the terms that sling freely?

I never said that you would qualify as a "Redneck Inbred Sister Fucker," it was merely an example of how one stereotypical title for one race is just as unacceptable as another. I think that you would also agree that most people, yourself included, would not run around the streets spouting the word "Chinaman" to every Chinese person you came across - as most people are more sensitive and educated enough not to. It is not a matter of insecurity - it's that he/she does not know any better - which in this day and age, should be absolutely intolerable.

As a university educated and liberal individual, it disgusts me how INSENSITIVE some people are towards these things.

I'm with beaucoup fish on this one. Chinaman was and is still used as a racially-charged derogatory term. I'm sure mack didn't mean anything by it but in my opinion it was inappropriate and something which one shouldn't try to defuse with poor humor.

I've been to many Irish and Scotish pubs: They Do Not Drink Warm or Room Temp Beer! Their beer is just not as cold as US/Canadien beer. We like our beer ice cold; they like it cold - - which to them is between 40-50 degrees. And by the way, I've visited the Guiness factory in Ireland and the tour guide told us that Guiness has a deal with Budweiser. All Bud beer in Ireland is made by Guiness and all Guiness beer in the States is made by Budweiser. And it is true because the Guiness in Ireland taste much better than Guiness in the states.

And for the record: China is ruining the US Economy. The US is solely now a comsumer continent. 90% of all products are sadly manufactured in China. Why? Because US companies outsource manufacturing to a cheap but educated workforce in China; and it is cheaper to set up manufacturing facilities. Ulitmately this will take a toll on the US Gross National Product as we will only be a nation that buys products and procures services, but manufacturer/produces nothing ourselves! Way to go GW ... allow US companies to set-up shop overseas, manuf products cheaply and the import them without a tariff importation tax ... this leads to fewer American jobs because we are no longer employing people at American facilities. I see it in my job and know personally of many people who have lost jobs to Asian outsourcing. Call me a fool or whatever you will .... we'll see who's laughing in ten years when the US is a second world nation to China. It is inevitable.

The second world is part of a terminology system that doesn't exist anymore.

The first world referred to democratic, fully industrialized countries.

The second world basically referred to the semi-modern yet communist regimed countries of the Soviet Union.

The third world referred to under-developed and developing countries found mainly in Africa.
