How to package a stick for shipping

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

just wondering how you guys package a stick for shipping if you're making a sale.

I have 2 Vapour XXXX's that I might be potentially shipping off. Do you box the sticks or just bubble wrap the crap out of it?

I typically try to ship a stick/shaft in the same amount of protection that I'd expect to recieve one in (typically a very good quality box). I normally make my own boxes to fit the shaft I'm shipping, so I use cardboard from larger boxes that were delivered to me. Unless I'm trying to save space because of size requirements, I'll measure out the length, width, and height of the items, then cut and score the cardboard so that it fits perfectly. I'll secure the box tightly around the shaft with packaging tape and make sure that any gaps or openings are pulled securely closed with the tape. This normally means that a majority of the package is covered, which makes it nearly waterproof as well.

I wouldnt know where to get one, but i keep the boxes that came when i bought sticks or recieved warranty replacement, the only thing i dont keep is the garbage bags easton sends me their sticks in.

Boxes can be more expensive, I just sent a stick today and what I did was cut up an old towel into strips and wrapped it around the stick so it was well padded, then wrapped it all in plastic from a garbage bag. Not the most conventional way to ship it but it got the job done and should keep it safe.

Bubble wrap also helps with the cardboard wrap. Another suggestion, always get the insurance when shipping sticks, they are easier to break than you think and it has saved my ass before.

I had thought about the insurance today and didnt get it, really wishing i did though mainly to help with theft in between destinations

One thing to know that I didn't know the first time... I went to a great deal of trouble to make a hockey stick shaped (L shaped) box the first time I shipped one. My idea was to make it as compact as possible to reduce the cost. Unfortunately when I took it to the UPS store, I was informed that the shape would cause me to get an "irregular shape" fee tacked on. If I recall correctly it was around $12 extra. The clerk told me that I should have just put it in sort of a flat cardbord sleeve (with some bubble wrap) and I would have not had the extra $12 tacked on.

Flat sleeve is best way to go, no bubble wrap or paddings needed. Just make box 1" longer than the stick. We ship them all over this way, they do not get damaged. Flat rectange of 2 pieces of cardboard, sanwich the stick. Boxes use dimensions for billing, so the thinner and smaller thebox the better.

The problem with the flat cardboard sleeve is if it is over a certain measurement (L + W + H = however many inches) they will charge you a balloon fee for the oversized box/package

If it's a sleeve they can just charge you for length, and you won't balloon. A box on the other hand might.

You can wrap it in bubble wrap and cover it in a garbage bag. Tape it up put the label on it and leave it for the mail delivery person.
