Good starter composite with low kick point

Recommended Posts

A couple of my friends have used the Vapor X:40 (now X4.0) and they loved it. It's $99 and has a good amount of curve options. I've never used either curve, but just based on seeing them, I think the P88 would be the closest to Reebok's Datsyuk pattern.

Most sticks in the $40-$70 range aren't responsive enough for you to notice a kickpoint. That $99-129 range offers the best bang for your buck.

Suggestions in that range?

I won't suggest old top-end sticks on clearance, that definitely doesn't fit into that 'starter' criteria, but they're there if you want them.

steelnation's suggestion is solid, the Easton 65S (look for an Iginla) has been tremendous at $99, you might find a Warrior Bandito at that range or less (look for a Kovalchuk), the 6K is also a great choice. The T90 is probably the best, though that falls into the top-end sticks (great value though).

Stay away from the low end composites. They really aren't all that great. I wouldn't go below the $99-139 dollar range. There are some good sticks in that range. The Ai5 and Nexus 600 are decent feeling sticks for the money.

Finding a higher end model on closeout is always an option, but you run the risk of liking it and never finding it again.

Sherwood T90. Great stick for the price.

I will also put a vote in for the Sherwood T90. Great solid, light stick for the money. I have been using one for about a year now.

Nexus 600

Bauer One80

Easton 65s

CCM u+10

are all good values.

But my favorite in that price range right now is the Graf G45. A lot of stick for the money. Quite light, has been holding up very well, has a unique grip that runs along the bottom of the shaft so its not too sticky, but when you grab it, it grips well. I think its just a lot of stick for the money right now.

But you wont go wrong with any of the above.

Just going to point out that, regardless of what lie it's listed at, I seem to remember the Rbk Datsyuk being a fairly low lie curve, certainly lower than something like an Easton Iginla. If the lie of the Datsyuk is just right for you, you might be better off going with a Modano/PM9 type curve in a different brand as opposed to an Iginla type curve, even if the Modano/PM9 is a smaller, more heel-y curve that the Datsyuk. On the other hand, if you can handle a higher lie curve, then an Iginla type curve should work well.

Or, just stick with Rbk and get a Datsyuk curve. The Ai5 is supposed to be a good mid-range stick.

The 6k is a great stick lightweight and still has a good kick to it. with I'm guessing the Ai line is replacing??

AI is technically replacing the O-sticks. And the AI line is a mid-kick stick, a good one at that, but OP is looking for low.

I HATE mid end sticks, but am actually really enjoying my CCM U+ 10. Great kick, and decent feel and its pretty light for a $100-110 stick. I would recommend.

I've been using T90s for over a year and love them but I feel it's more of a mid kick point stick. That being said, the T90 is REALLY hard to beat in it's price range. It's light, has relatively good pop, and there's a big curve selection to choose from.

I use a Warrior bentley that works well for a low kick and good price. Ice Warehouse has them on closeout for 55 bucks but only have left handers left. Also have a Easton Mako M 1 that is a decent low price point. Best of luck with your search for the right stick which works for you.

Oh yes, missed the part in the title about low kick point. The Sherwood definitely feels more of a mid to low-mid.

The Bentley felt like an absolute brick when I picked it up in the store. At that price range I would've picked up a decent wood stick instead.

I went from really low end composites to the Bauer X:40 (Now X:4.0) and loved it. If you are left handed then you can find the X:40 on clearance at a lot of sites. Not sure what blade patterns are left, but I feel it's worth looking into. Great price for a quality stick.

easton 65s and bauer x40's have my vote. x40's are mid end and $99 normally, but should be on clearance everywhere

Gotta agree with the guys earlier with suggesting the t90. Late last season I broke 2 sticks and decided to go a bit cheaper on my secondary weapon and picked up the t90, for being a top shelf Easton user and rs fanatic it was an easy stick to pick up. Off the shelf it had a tremendous amount of pop, which was able to produce a very powerful slapshot and a heavily charged snapshot and wristshot. The durability as far as stick life goes is very high, as far as performance goes I noticed after about a month it lost most of the pop it had prior. I recommend the t90 to you, it doesnt have the low kick point you are lookin for however it is extremely responsive and in my honest opinion the best stick you could possibly get for your budget.

I would not want to put a new player in one of the "very low" kickpoint sticks. Any "normal" tapered OPS like the Supreme, Synergy or T90 mentioned a number of times would probably be a lot better option. They are not true mid kick sticks, the descriptions used in marketing are rarely exact descriptions. The T90 is a great deal, offering excellent performance at a middle of the road price point.

What is your reasoning for this Chadd?
