hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted November 1, 2012 "Fights sometimes happen..." Sounds like every week at one rink that I play at And like the article mentioned....it's embarassing. I think most can admit they get fired up at times....it's dumb when grown men in a beer league feel the need to fight each other. On the other hand.....it can be darn funny to watch. donkers 31 Report post Posted November 2, 2012 The only time I have ever fought was because some guy two handed me to the face with his stick and there wasn't a call because it was behind the play.
Orange&Black12 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2012 Hi Guys. i think some guys take it more serious than others but thats fine with me. I mean if you don´t have the skill to make any regular League why shouldn´t you go out there and give it all you have even if it´s just Beer League. I play Beer League myself and call me crazy but i take pride in what i do. I don´t want to play in any regular League and probably couldn´t skill wise but i think it is all the same game. But about the article: It pretty much hits the nail on the head. Even here in germany:)

DoYouKnowTheMuffinMan 1 Report post Posted November 7, 2012 Pretty spot on article there for sure haha. "That guy" that thinks he is still going pro definitely is the most annoying player especially if he is on your team.
pittu 15 Report post Posted November 8, 2012 Speaking of "that guy"...how about the guy who is incapable of any shot other than the clapper. He is a good enough stick handler that if he's under pressure, he will skate to the corner, behind the net, up past the circle, and curl in, just so he has room to wind up. Doesnt matter if he's 15' from the tender or 50, its time for the thunder...LOL...We have a guy (who we call "slapshot", duh) who is like that. He will NEVER pass unless he has absolutely no choice. He skates into the zone along the boards, hits the brakes and winds up.....EVERY TIME!!! I love to play against him, just head to the far board cause that is where the puck will end up everytime he shoots!!All that and he managed to hit one of his own teammates in the ankle the other night with a BOOMER!!! OUCH!!It got to the point where guys on his team were making fun of him everytime he touched the puck yelling in unison..."SLAAAAAAPSHOOOOOOT"....

IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 Greg: Matching equipment guy. No matter what ridiculous colour his team wears, he spends hundreds of dollars to ensure he has the corresponding helmet gloves and pants, even though everyone else has the standard issue Ottawa black gear.Punt Lover: (Obviously looking in Stuntman Stu’s direction). Top-of-the-line equipment but cannot skate guy. He's the one that has the best of everything, didn't pay for it but he still can't play, can't stop and his nose is always off side at the media games.I'm both of these guys

IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 Except you pay for it.Sure. But TBH i don't care. If somebody is gonna bash me because I like having nice (inc. matching) stuff, feel free. Reminds me of the guy in beer league baseball league I was in that heckled me for wearing baseball pants and not just shorts like everyone else. Yea, sue me for wearing baseball pants to play baseball.

Reminds me of the guy in beer league baseball league I was in that heckled me for wearing baseball pants and not just shorts like everyone else. Yea, sue me for wearing baseball pants to play baseball. I like having matching gear. Some guys just don't care (guy who wears two different color socks) and some do. I do. I'm not sure if it's a vanity thing or a OCD type deal. haha. As far as high end gear. . .I prefer having mid to high end gear as it is typically a better bang for your buck overall. Higher quality materials are used so the gear tends to last longer (sticks being the exception). Plus, for me at least, I couldn't tell you who is using high end/low end gear during the game. Except for the old vets who are still using their gear from the 80's.
wrangler 157 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 I like to have better gear so impacts don't hurt.
IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted December 1, 2012 The matching part is mostly OCD. I play for a team now that is black/white/red. I have everything black except my helmet. Damn right I'm going to get a black one! :PI agree wrangler. Comfort and protection are my primary reasons for buying better stuff. But even then, its not so much me buying top of the line stuff (my pants, gloves, stick and skates are all far below top of the line), it's just buying new stuff, trying things out. It's just an expensive hobby to keep trying new things.
