Can I get a pair of blades by themself sharpened?

Recommended Posts

I purchased a second pair of blades in case of emergency and I am wondering if I can just take that set of blades in to get sharpened if they are separated from my holders or do they need to be connected to my holders.

Back when I sharpened, The blade was the only clamp point so I would think you could do it. But to be honest, it might be faster to run them into the lobby and get them sharpened if you lost an edge.

Yes. You can get the blades sharpened separate from the holders.

Note that this might be somewhat dependent on the LHS.

One that I worked at 10 yrs ago wouldn't do it (more of a mom/pop type LHS), but both of the ones I've worked at in the last two years do.

Best thing to do is give them a call and check.

I sharpen loose steel as well - it is in fact easier than mounted; sometimes the boot plays with the holder.

And yes, friends I sharpen remotely for just throw it in a flat-rate envelope.

I just did 5 sets fr one of the guys in Europe who is playing there while the strike is on. Also do a few guys in the NCAA. Its pretty simple really. And most guys that say like your sharpening will get you to do a couple sets so they don't have to worry about edges while away.

I know there is one former NHL guy that shopped at the London store I used to run and he had 12 pairs of skates sharpened for the season. Took all 12 pairs over and and wore them till he wasnt comfortable with the edges then switched skates.

I was talking to a guy at a skate the other night that works at an LHS tell me he doesn't like doing them without the skate because they burn his fingers. I've never had that problem, but admittedly my X-01 turns a lot slower than a full size machine. I would think that if the blades are getting that hot, you have some other problems to deal with though.

He's in Calgary, and he isn't a friend. Count me out LOL

Count me in then! LOL.

... And LOL at whomever is complaining about burning their fingers on runners after sharpening. A whole shop full of tools, you'd think there would be ONE that could be used to prevent this problem.

3400 rpm, same as standard Blademaster/Blackstone

I thought the X-02 was faster than the X-01 and that they were both slower than the full size machines. Thanks for setting me straight.

They effectively are slower.

A 4" wheel at 3400 RPM would have to spin approximately 6800 RPM to have the same surface speed as an 8" wheel.
