High School Hockey Goalie Flips of Coach

Recommended Posts

From what I've heard is this:

Kid was a Senior, and it was Senior night, which is why he was playing. He had gotten passed up for a Sophomore who wasn't that much better then him, but was playing better. The SR was upset about it and basically quit the team.

His team was up 2-1 with just a couple minutes left in third, they lost 3-2.

It's usually the last home game of the season. They call it that to give the seniors a little farewell scenario before they graduate.

Thanks! I'd never heard of such a thing. US school stuff is all pretty foreign to me.

It's a way of telling the seniors, many of whom have played all four years, thanks. They get recognized. People cheer. fans go crazy. Happy Happy Happy. Unless. you are this guy.

Even if the sophmore wasn't "that much better" he was still better and should be playing. The coach did the right thing by playing the SR for the last home game. He put the weaker goalie out and gave his team less of a chance of winning just to show some level of appreciation.

This shows what this kids is really made of. I hope he is real proud of himself, he'll go far at McDonalds...probably make all the way to the register one day.

It would seem that he's the only one in his universe -- no concern for team, parents, anyone. And now he'll always be "the kid that. . ."

I couldn't believe this when I saw this but these days it's not surprising. If I ever saw my kid doing something like this he would have hell to pay. Luckily I think I've raised him right so far to realize you need to work with the cards dealt to you and something like this needs to be a motivator to improve.

There's a lot of different articles floating around about this incident. And there's more to it than just the goalie not getting played. Apparently there was a quite a few issues going between a lot of the senior players and their families with the coaching staff. Because of this his team really didnt care what he did, he asked the team, they said they didnt care. Not to mention we're talking about high school hockey here, its not the pros..

Not that it really matters but everybody can speculate all they want but we werent on the team nor were we aware of the problems amongst the players/families and their coaches.

We just had Senior Night at our local school, and I was there with my two boys. They have this little ceremony at the start of the game, the parents come on the ice, etc. This means most likely this kid's parents were in attendance. As a father, I'd be pretty disappointed in my kid if he did this. If the prior poster is right and there were more issues between the goalie and the coaching staff, then quit the team or don't dress for the game. To dress, play, and then crap all over the game of hockey like that shows a lot about that kid. Sounds to me like the coaches had the right guy in net all season (the soph).
