Girdle questions

Recommended Posts

I want to know what the majority here does. I just got a L girdle with a L warrior syko shell. The shell looks really big when on. Do alot of people wear the same size shell as their girdle? Do Warrior syko shells run big?

Shell sizing varies by company. I would suggest getting a shell from the same company that manufactured your girdle. I use the same size bauer shell for my bauer girdle. It fits perfect.

I use the lowers from a 2 pc pant as girdle shells and I always go one size down.

Do you cut the padding out? You have any pictures to post for me to see how it looks on a girdle?

Not trying to be a jerk, but if you search girdle here at Modsquad there is a wealth of information here in numerous threads on both models. I know because I've posted the same information in many of them. Somebody is thinking of trying a girdle every 6-9 months or so. The question comes up pretty regularly.

Use the advanced search, use girdle, in ice hockey equipment and search titles only. There is hours worth of info there on both models and their various names.

I use the TotalOne & my son uses the APX. They are both great options depending on what you need exactly as far as protection and mobility.

I need a bright red shell. Bauers red shell is a little too dark. Warriors is perfect.

EDIT: Just saw a video for the Bauer supreme shells. They seem like they'd be alot more comfortable with all that elastic in the groin, inner thigh, and at the waist. The warriors dont have that

I bought the CCM Supra (PP10?) shell for my CCM pants and it was loooong. Like an extra 2 inches. I like the way Tacklas fit over both pants and girdles.

My experience... Warrior shells run big. I hate it. Bauer seems to run true to size. I just use a gutted pair of Reebok 7k's as a shell which is nice because I get zippers and a padded belt.

Edit: Typos.

Nope, just pull out the thigh pads if I choose to.

I don't - all the pics I have of me have my MSH shell over my pant shell - so I'm wearing two shells.

I've used both. I have the Bauer Vapor 8 Pro, which was the precursor to the totalone, though.

Bauer pros: ability to remove all pads for washing, velcro opens completely instead of pulling up like pants, pads feel substantial but are not heavy at all, freedom of motion is top shelf.

con: the thin foams on the pelvis twisted on mine and don't really sit right (ymmv), some spots feel a bit exposed, I don't recall taking a puck in a bad spot, it's just the sense I get when I put it on.

Projekt pros: very slim fit, you can size down a shell if you want to avoid the diaper feeling, I feel more covered in the projekt but the pads are thinner

cons: I'm told the stock belt runs small (mine came with an after market CCM belt so this wasn't an issue), the thinner pads *feel* like they should be less protective but I have no real-life experience to back up that feeling, the pads have to be pulled on like pants and you can't remove any parts for washing

I got a good price on a 9k and have been using that for most of my winter season. If I was to go back to one of the girdles above, I'd lean towards the Bauer. The open velcro is much more convenient in the locker room and allows me to adjust for bulky legs. Either one is suitable for beer league, though, just my humble opinon.

The 9ks are probably more protective than pants. The shell also has padding to add to it. It is a great design for high protection, it's heavy yet feels light once you have it on and the mobility is better than any pants I've tried. The 9k downside is they can get pricey and the shells run on average $75 each.

Is it really that big of a deal to create.a topic if you don't see something similar on the first page? Searching is fine but he wanted something a bit more specific than what most girdle topics here have. I don't get why people come into topics to tell people to search, if it bugs you just try and ignore it.

Have you done this with bauer supreme shells as well?

For some reason I think I've mostly used Easton shells, but I know I have a Bauer Supreme one, and it's one sized down as well, and it's never caused issue.

Which would be why i prefaced my post with "not to be a jerk". It is also why I didn't post "Next time try the search function you half-wit". He said he'd had trouble finding information. There is a wealth of information on both girdles that has been posted here in the past. Including several replies by me as I have experience with both models and am very pro girdle. I wanted to be sure he was able to find and read the several hundred replies on both the APX & TotalOne in their numerous variants in great detail that have been posted in the past so he could make an informed decision. That is why I gave detailed advanced search instructions, because if you just do a quick search of girdle the pertinent threads are buried. This thread has 26 replies. there is an X60 review alone in the 3 pages worth of advanced search results that has 75 replies. It doesn't bug me and I wanted to give him the benefit of my input. I was simply in a hurry and didn't have 15 minutes to retype information I'd already posted multiple times.

Thanks. The 9k's are obviously more protective, right? But do they offer as much mobility and are as light as the Bauers?

Yes, the 9k is probably the most protective of the three. Overkill for beer league but something I wanted to try. I like that the legs are adjustable (for length and width) separately from the hip portion.

The 9ks are probably more protective than pants. The shell also has padding to add to it. It is a great design for high protection, it's heavy yet feels light once you have it on and the mobility is better than any pants I've tried. I just use a regular, non-padded Easton shell. The girdle itself offers enough protection.

There are similar topics on the first page. The OP has created 3 topics on girdles in two days. He would have been better off making one thread and continued discussion from there.

I've merged them now.

Sorry. Ill keep it in one topic from now when I post something similar. I thought maybe the "what size shell" topic may have been different enough, but I can see it being in the same topic as well.

Can someone tell me whose shell is the longest? Or where I can get a longer or tall shell?

I wear an XL girdle, but the XL shells don't quite make it far enough down my leg. I don't want to go to an XXL girdle, but need more length. Any ideas?

Also, sine we are on the topic, does anyone make a shell that matches the Toronto Maple Leafs colors?

The Bauer shells on a Bauer girdle run about a 1/2" past the girdle. The 9k shell I need to size down on, they run very long...however 9k shells can be costly so I wouldn't suggest that route unless you find one cheap.

These CCM's run super long. Like an extra 2" compared to Tacklas and my 9k shell.
