Looking for new Shins

Recommended Posts

Hello

Looking for new shins. I am currently wearing older CCM V 08's and liked them a lot. Theybare starting to fall apart so looking to get new shins.

I looked at the new CCM CL shins but they have slimmed down quite a bit since the Vectors and dont care for them.

Does anyone have any info on the CCM U + 12? Is this the same shell as the CL or is it a bit wider closer to the U fit and Vector models?

Also loooking at the AX1 Warriors and RBK 20Ks

What are your thoughts? I love the wide knee cap of the older CCMs.

Thanks

Ah, just wanted to make sure. I've always loved Jofa's fit, so I'd lean toward the Reebok option. The Warriors look quite derivative of that whole line of descent though.

Problem with the Reeboks though is the new strap system is real big in the back and it doesn't close with a nice tight fit. I would have to cut the strap and sew it back on tighter.

Hocjey monkey has them but u can't return them and I don't know what size I'd be. I have cheap Bauer x3.0 right now in size 14. But I heard the 11k maybe ran smaller/shorter. I'm 5'8 with short legs.

Yeah, I saw that whole debacle in the LTR of the 20K. Even all of the Jofa shins I had, with just the one strap behind the knee, were crap when it came to their straps. It worked ok to use them on the outside of the sock, but inside, it just burrowed itself into the back of my leg like a parasite. I just taped. I also didn't like the hyper-extension guard, but I found ways around it.

I had the opposite experience with reeboks. I tried to replace my old cracked esstons so I figured I'd go with the reeboks on clearance. Top strap just makes it bottom strap doesn't. If I keep pulling it tighter not only does it dig into my calf the S clip starts to bend to where it WILL snap.

I got a size 14 (eastons were a 13 and considered a Sr when I bought them) and I'm 5'7" with shorter legs

Yianni, I had the same reaction to the CCM shins after the V0 models. I had Vector V06 LE's and loved them. When it came time to replace them, I looked at the new CCM stuff but didn't like the more tapered shape. I wound up with some Warrior Bonafides that I really like. They are wider at the bottom, which I prefer, and have a nice, deep knee. I wound up removing all the strapping, but they do have some nice wrap around straps, nothing like the CCMs, but pretty good nonetheless. I just preferred to use them without straps.

It's the current CCM line that has slimmed down. See if you can still find any of the older line headed by the U+ Pro and Fit series.

Ive got 11k shins, and as far as protection, they are tanks.

The strapping is okay, but I tape em too, as I grew up using shins that didnt come with straps, so hard to break the habit!

Just get 11k's, they're on clearance and the straps are the right lenght.

The 11Ks felt very curved outwards and felt awkward to wear. The new 20K line fits much straighter from top to bottom and feels more natural. Such a shame though, the straps are what deterred me from buying this pad. They should start using the same strapping system Bauer and Warrior have on the front, it's a much better design.

I'm using the new Mako shins, coming from Reebok 9Ks, and I love them! They are less bulky than the Reeboks, but not nearly as trim as the U+CLs I tried on or Bauer Supremes.

They have a large comfortable knee cap and then begin to taper down the shin, but not too drastically until the very bottom.

The calf protection is comfortable and nice with extra plastic back there, and the padding is both soft and a little grippy to keep things in place.

I also love the strapping system vs the Reebok straps I cam from which seemed a bit short and just not comfortable. The Mako knee strap is slightly below the knee bend and is an elastic strap so it can hold tight but gives enough not to be uncomfortable.

They're very protective too.

Worth a look if they feel comfortable on your legs.

Exactly the post Ive been searching for... I using Bauer X60's right now playing defense and feeling a lot of blocked shots. Reeboks are too wide for my legs and I'm thinking about taking a look at those new Makos.

Anyone else have experience with them?
