Will Bauer TUUK Lightspeed Edge Holder fit into a CCM Crazy Light?

Recommended Posts

Does the Bauer TUUK Lightspeed Edge Holder fit into a CCM Crazy Light (and the soon-to-be released RBZ), with relative ease and simplicity, or will it require some sort of fancy drilling, profiling, and whatever else?

It will fit on the new RBZ as they have changed the bolt pattern to match TUUK. It does not line up perfectly on the current CL.

That is opinion, not fact. While I personally prefer the classic Tuuk +, I have skated on both CCM and Easton holders without difficulty and usually haven't swapped them out until getting a good way down the steel first.

All of that said, the new CCM holder which will be on the RBZ intrigues me and I am considering the second level RBZ skate as a possible replacement for the SE16s that I went back to when my 9Ks bit the dust.

Why change?

I just like the quick in and out with the trigger mechanism. Nothing is certain as to which skates I will be buying, and whether I will be performing this swap; I just like to know my options. (I don't like the lack of heel lock in the Vapors, so buying them "to get" the quick trigger holder is not an option.

Bauer Tuuks will fit on the new RBZ's? thats awesome, I have a pair on order and much prefer the Bauer holders. These will match up perfectly?

I have been told by CCM that they will match up exactly and they purposly created the new holder to have the exact same TUUK bolt pattern. From their point of view, they're hoping people with Bauer will want to change to their holders, but its likely there will be more swaps the other way.

What problems?

None of the players that were dropping blades had the Edge holder. Have you heard of other problems?

the blade falling off, the trigger breaking from a shot. the problems are out there

I just put on a set of TUUK Lightspeed Edge holders on my CCM CL skates, I love the holders, and I have not yet had a problem with the trigger system, nor have I heard of anyone that have. Feel like a new skate, I'm also curious to try the new CCM 4.0 holders..

I like the trigger system too. Not because it's needed so a skater can replace their crappy broken bauer steel quicker, but because it's a great idea.

u just listed the problems any holder can have, except anything on a holder can break from a shot not just the trigger mechanism

I can see some issues happening over time with the new holders but it seems far too early for wear and tear to be an issue.

No problems whatsoever with the Lightspeed Edge holders here. It's not a life changing thing, but it is convenient to be able to have a spare set of sharpened runners that can be replaced without any tools in about 10 seconds. Seems to me that if a puck was able to hit the trigger (which is not particularly exposed, so the odds of that can't be that high) at just the right angle, hard enough to break it, you'd probably have a break in a regular holder too. I imagine the trigger system could eventually wear out from use, but given the frequency with which most people actually change out their runners I tend to think that the trigger system will outlast the useful life of the skates. If not, a new Edge holder costs around $35 so I'm not goig to lose any sleep over that.

If anything, the most significant downside to the Edge holder right now is that you are limited in your choice of runners. I hope Step or other manufacturers will come out with some different options, but for now I have a couple pairs of Fusion runners and am content with them, despite the supposed fragility I occasionally read about on this and other forums.

I was under the impression that they will fit any steel that fits LS2 - no?

No. Its specific to the new Edge holders and they patented it so that companies like Step are not supposed to be able to make replacement steel for them.

I just had my LHS store put the new ccm speed blade holders on my crazy lights. I had been skating bauer nexus 1000s while the work was being done. I skated the crazy lights today and first impressions were not good. Almost wish I hadn't done it. If anyone is interested I can post some pics(though it looks identical to the tuuks above), but I would not recommend. Made the skates heavier and threw off the whole balance of the skate.

Maybe your LHS just did a bad job mounting?
