Fred 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 never experienced a problem like that, even with very wet ice..and I don't use a high quality tape (finishing some stock I had of TotalHockey black tape) and high quality wax (A&R Wax)..Did you tried other tapes/wax? Stewie 721 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 I notice no difference in the ease of ripping when the tape is waxed, in fact, it might be slightly decreased.
Cosmic 178 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 Mine seems to rip every game too. I use white Renfrew cloth tape. I used Blade Butter for awhile but decided to give this ProFormance wax a try. Only 1 game with ProFormance and multiple rips- it was a rather long sesh (2.25 hours) tho and I was involved in many plays.

It sounds like a stupid question but I normally play center and when I do that my tape is ripped half way through the game wax or no wax. When I play wing or defense my tape last a lot longer because I am not taking face-offs.Recently I also had to borrow renfrew for a pond hockey game and the tape was done like a half hour into playing. I normally use howies and I feel like that stuff just last longer.

I think just being in on just about every play in front of either net does a bit more of a bang up job on the tape. This is fine with me; I would prefer to be in the midst of the action all the time. Stewie 721 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 I dont think Wax will contribute to any sort of tape ripping to be honest, unless someone has a theory how. The only thing i could suggest to the OP is to try a different tape. I too have better luck with Howies, and also seem to notice an improvement when I use larger width tape rolls (1.5 in). The larger width tape roll makes less seams, which is less points to easily rip accross, at least in what Ive seen.
Souldriver 64 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 I use Renfrew friction and a light layer of sex wax. Mine still tears but less or it will tear and still stick and not flop off. I usually go heavy on the top edge of the blade with the wax to protect it and the tape from people coming down on it during faceoffs and such. My tape has been lasting 2-3 games sometimes could go longer but no need to push it.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted January 11, 2014 I dont think Wax will contribute to any sort of tape ripping to be honest, unless someone has a theory how. If I wax my blade, rips will develop. If I don't wax, it will get shredded long before the game is over. Between passing, shooting and playing defense, no brand of tape holds up for me.
Stewie 721 Report post Posted January 12, 2014 Are you saying you think wax makes the stick more prone to rip? In my experience it doesn't seem to increase the chance
bunnyman666 445 Report post Posted January 12, 2014 i tape the bottom of the stick twice, then tape the toe with four strips of tape, wrap the blade liberally, then apply a liberal layer of sex wax, melt it with the heat gun, then apply again. My tape now lasts two games EASILY.

I think this is just how it is.
