Sherwood Stick Flex

Recommended Posts

Can anyone comment on how the sherwood sticks flex ratings compare to other brands? My LHS doesn't have any sherwoods available at the moment, and the only sticks that I've used recently are bauer and base. My bauer is 77 and the base is 85, and I would say the sweet spot is just in between the two. Sherwood offers 75 and 85 flex's which is right in the middle, but I'm not sure if they are true to rating, stiffer or softer compared to other models.

Thanks!!

I've only owed the Ek15 and I can say it plays a lot stiffer than other sticks with the same flex to compare to bauer I used a APX and Apx2 and the nexus 1000 obviously the nexus was whippier than the apx2 but the ek15 75 flex was stiffer than the APX 77 flex for sure.

The EK15 that I used felt much softer at full length than any other 85 flex stick that I used.

I agree with Chadd, the Sherwood's feel slightly softer than other brands. Reminds me of Easton sticks.

I had just posted in another thread that my ek15 felt soft for a 75 flex. A couple of other posters commented theirs felt stiffer than rated. Might be a stick you want to get your hands on to be sure.

found the T90 to be pretty true to flex

the 4" "flex free" cut area (or whatever its called) at the top is neat, so you don't have to worry about increasing the flex when you cut it

really good sticks IMO

just realize if you dont cut it, that it will play softer than the flex is listed

My EK15 is definitely much whippier. Also be aware that the Rekkers (and apparently the True Touches) have a flex-free cut zone on the end, so cutting the stick down won't change the flex as long as you don't cut more than 4 inches.

how does that even make sense?

the stated stick flex (lets say is 85) is at full length, is it not?

Sherwood makes them so u can still cut off up to 4" WITHOUT it affecting the flex .... so how can it play softer, right at full length?

what would be the purpose of the flex free cut zone then???

The way they test it has something to do with the free cutting zone. The way I understood it was, it's supported by the apparatus a few inches in from the end of the shaft and then it is flexed to determine the force required to deform the shaft. That way, when it's cut down up until that zone where it's supported in the flex-testing apparatus, it doesn't increase in stiffness beyond the printed rating. Physically, it makes sense that at full length then, such sticks would seem whippier than their printed rating. I'm going off of my interpretation of a second-hand report of how testing is done on cut-zone sticks, so my confidence is around 65% on this.

I think just based off physics, the flex of the stick measured before its cut and the flex of the stick after its cut will be slightly higher, but the flex rating was probably measured with the intent that an inch or so would be cut off. I am just more curious about the overall flex rating of the stick, like if I am buying an 87 bauer and 85 Ek15 (basically the same number rating) and cut them the same, which is going to play softer/stiffer.
