Easton E700 severe problem

Recommended Posts

After using this helmet for a season I encountered a severe problem which started already right at the beginning. It's really leightweight and provides good protection. Also at the start of a hockey session does a great job of absorbing sweat. Though after about 30 minutes when the pads are soaked with sweat you get severe Problems - sweat is Running down into your eyes.

Does anyone know is there a new model coming up adressing this problem?

Use one of these (Halo sweatband):

Or, one of these (Sweathawg Skull Cap):

Halo II Sweatband:

Pros:

- Relatively Thin

- Lightweight

- Stretchy

- Dries quickly

Cons:

- May cause a red line across your forehead

- May cause head pain if it's too tight or if the helmet is too small

- The glue that holds the rubber liner may prematurely degrade (sometimes it'll last a few months, sometimes a week)

- Material loses it's stretch and will become loose over time

Sweathawg Skullcap:

Pros:

- Breathable

- Comfortable to wear for long periods of time

- High quality materials

- Keeps majority of the sweat out/off of the helmet liner (great for keeping VN foams soft)

- Holds it's shape over time

Cons:

- Not as stretchy as Halo band

- Thick and takes up a lot of volume (not so great if you're right on the line between sizes--I had to move up from a medium to a large)

- Takes a full 24 hours to dry out

Love the under armour skull caps. I use a M-11 helmet that does not ventilate well and this cap most definitely keeps the sweat out of my eyes.

Or you can go the old fashioned way and bring a towel on the bench and wipe the sweat off when it starts to build up

That way worked fine for all the helmets I have been wearing over the years - unfortunately not with the E700 as the pads (when they are fully soaked with sweat) cannot be cleaned that way. What helps is squeezing them (then a lot of sweat get's out) but bad enough too much sweat remains in the pad ... so in your next shift or two you get the same problem again :-(

There are new helmets featured in the Easton catalog (which is why a lot of the current helmets are on sale), but I'm not sure if they've addressed/fixed the problem that you are having.

I used the HALO 2 with my IMS 7 helmet and it worked great. Never had sweat in my face and it was really comfortable, I would just put the helmet on loose and then tighten it up. However, I recently switched to an 8K, which fits snug fully open and doesn't really work with the HALO so I tried the new Bauer 37.5 skull cap which is thinner and just fits under the helmet. It works good, no sweat in the face but it is a tad warmer than the HALO

I swear by the Halo sweat band. I actually cut the front of it and apply it to the front of my helmet. Always fits like a glove and does the trick.

I have the exact same problem, thinking of going back to my old bulky bauer. Too bad since it's the most comfortable and lightweight helmet I ever worn. What's even worse is that in my case, if I dont clean the pads I get Acne, and cleaning the pads wears them out.

My front pad has almost fell apart from the cleaning and the spare pad set seems to be non-existant (at least in Sweden).

I generally love Easton but this pad set is so poorly designed. :(

Is there any product manager or someone who is in charge at Easton available here on MSH? Maybe JC can point out more feedback.

It's strange that Easton isn't responding to these obvious problems most players are facing.

Anyone got insights into Easton what they are intending to do?

What are you expecting them to do/say? I sweat a lot, more than most people I've met and never had that much of a problem with either of my E700s.

Whilst the sweat part is a pita, I will never knock this helmet. Took a ripper of a slap shot (he got all of it and consistently records speeds of just under 100mph) square on to the side of the head just above the ear guard last night in training, helmet cracked right through from the top of the ear guard to 3/4's of the way up the helmet. Couple of bells ringing in my head for a minute or so but other than that, physically all good. Helmet is toast but that's a small price to pay for an intact head......

Fortunately I purchased a couple of these on clearance last year :)
