Opinions on best $100 stick?

Recommended Posts

Warrior QR4 has a lot of kick and a great weight for the price. Vapor X800 is a bit more dough but also a nice stick.

Is the jump in performance from the X700 to the X800 worth the $30 price jump? It seems like the only difference is a basket weave carbon shaft vs a 3k carbon shaft. Is there a big difference between those two?

Closeout top tier or second tier models.

This is your best answer. You can find higher end models for that price often enough in this market that wanting to spend $100 on a regularly priced item is not maximizing value.

If you're on a budget there's no reason to buy current model stick when you can buy a stick from a tier or two higher from last year for the same or even less money.

For the price of the qr4 you can buy a dt1 from a year or two ago, that's going to be a way better stick.

if you can stretch the budget to $130, the RBZ 130 is incredible

BUT, the stick should be a profile that is what you are looking for first and foremost - low kick point, high kick point, multi kick point (like the RBZ 130)

To clarify, from phrasing of OP's question, I thought he wanted a new gen stick. By all means if you want to go with an outgoing APX2, V9E, DT1LT, or Ribcor, go for it. It's the best value for the money.

Haven't used it but appears to be an RBZ knockoff, which would indicate an extra pingy blade. So if you like a softer feel, I'd probably stay away. I also just don't buy sticks from Tron, but that's a personal decision.

Are there advantages and disadvantages to a pingy blade compared to a softer feel?

Some say a pingy blade makes puckhandling more difficult but YMMV.

I emailed them and they said it's similar to an Easton Stealth RS. I ordered one, so I'll try it out and see. If it ends up sucking, at least I have a pretty stick

Yes. It's totally worth the $30. The two aren't even close. Pick them both up and get back to me.

X800 is 470g. X700 is 500g. For me that's where a stick goes from feeling light but solid to a little heavy (and usually unbalanced).

Exactly. The X800 shines because it's so well balanced. It feels like a sub 450g stick because the balance is great. The X700? Not so much.

Now I am intrigued by this stick...

If you can spend the extra $30, take it and run. You're not going to find anything else better 2015 model wise.

30$ is not that much if the stick is going to perform better. To me at least.

IIRC the x90 was 50$> than the x80 and I never read anything about how great or poor that stick was.

I was narrowing between x800, a4.5 and 30K. They seem to be similar style and price point for my budget and level of play.

All 3 are solid choices. You won't go wrong with any of them.

Does anyone know much about this Hespeler firestorm? It seems like a really good deal, but I'm wondering if it has any foam in the blade to help with puck feel. I had a nemesis but I didn't like the puck feel because it had no foam. http://www.hockeytron.com/Hespeler-Firestorm-Senior-Composite-Hockey-Stick.html?sc=86&category=252157

I wouldn't in a million years use one of those. Cheap knockoffs aren't something I'm interested in.

I will throw another hat in the ring, even though its not a stick ive used, but I know a lot of people like the T90, and the low kick version as well as others can be had for 90 bucks before codes on clearance. Not sure ive seen feedback on the low kick models specifically, but it may be worth looking at. t100 lkp model is right at the 100 mark as well.

I have a T90 LKP. It is a great stick. Feels a bit stiffer than my dt3 lt but still kicks great. I concur with Stewie.
