Can anyone compare the original Reebok Ribcor to the new Reckoner?

Recommended Posts

So my 1N blade heel cracked after two games and I had to send it away for a non custom warranty replacement. I had no sticks so when I picked up my skates from a profiling I found an original Reebok Ribcor 85 flex Crosby clear and was pretty excited. I was wondering if anyone has used the original and the new Reckoner because if I'm in love again I might get a Reckoner and sell the 1N.

Man, you change sticks more than anybody on this board!

The original Ribcor had good pop and feel. I used the 85 flex Crosby when I owned one. I have only tried the Reckoner in the shooting gallery. It was pretty nice, I could use it but I'm using the Ultra Tacks/Tacks because I prefer the mid-flex and the flatter P19 curve.

I'm hyper sensitive. I take every game and break it down and try to tweak certain things to improve it. If it isn't something I can change in technique it's something I can change in my gear. Hockey is evolution, if things don't change you will not improve. Oh and besides I'm trying to be the first men's leaguer to get recruited on a Sunday night 10pm game to try out for a pro contract lol

Man, they have a Reebok Crosby Reebok RibCor at thr lhs on clearance for $120. You guys think I should get it? My wife would be so mad because I got like 3 other sticks that are like 3 or 4 months old. Lol A Sherwood EK60, EK15 both in the Ryan II curve that I really like both, and a CCM superfast with a Lansdekog curve that I just think is ok.

I had a reckoner I like it better than the original definitely but it broke after about 5 weeks. I ended up going back to the 1x which I used since it was released and I just like it better. But I would rather have the reckoner than the original for sure.

I bought a Reebok Ribcor Saturday. 85 flex p87a non grip. It was the only one there and kind of hidden in a mix of sticks but I was excited to even find one. I used it in a game last night and wow, it made me forget all about the 1N that I have coming... And It broke... Got on the phone this morning and apparently they will be sending me a Reckoner to replace it even though I asked them if they would be sending a 40k because they don't even have the Reeboks anymore but nope he said Reckoner

While I've been there too, now days I would much rather have a half dozen of the exact same sticks and become extremely used to it. I play my best when I know exactly how the stick is going to react in every situation and that doesn't come to me after a month of trying something new. Each to there own, I guess

Ribcor blade was too pingy for me. The reckoner blade has a nice slightly damp feel to it but still has nice pop.

I totally agree with you and feel it was too pingy for me as well. I have also spent time with the 40k stick as well and felt that it was too pingy for me.

Transitioning to the reckoner took a little time getting used to, but now I am enjoying the stick. It loads and releases quicker so at first it took me by surprise. Because of the quicker load and release, my timing was a bit off but then realized that the puck sticks a little to the blade when shooting. I actually have a great sense of the feel of the puck when it releases quickly and have satisfaction that the puck went where I wanted to shoot. It doesn't feel fluky sometimes as I feel with my 1x.

Once you get used to the load and release of the reckoner, the softness of the blade brings tons of satisfaction when you snap one off because it feels more handsy (not a word). I still love the stealth CX better because I am more used to the feel of it.

The reckoner is still very stiff at the toe but the feel of the blade is softer than the ribcor. IMO, the pop lasts longer too and am glad CCM has protected the lower portion of the shaft with the taper over the exposed ribs getting dinged.

It will be interesting to see what Bauer comes out with their vapor line of sticks because the 1x is my least favourite. I am hoping they go the route of quicker release with a softer blade.

Usually there are minor upgrades to a newer model so getting used to it again is a lot easier but think the reckoner is a much improved stick over previous models. It isn't just marketing, CCM Reckoner has a quicker release stick with much better feel and the pop does last longer.
