Closed P28

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a pro stock curve that is the p28 but slightly closed at the toe. It's a little too open for me. I'm not looking for any drastic change just a little more closed then what it is.

Thanks

Yes, the Warrior Smyth (based on one of Kovalchuk's old pro curves) is probably what you'd want. It is available through the Warrior customizer program.

If you like the heel curve on the E28, you may not like the Smyth. CCM's P46 is between those two. Same lie as the Smyth, so a bit lower than the E28. That BC71 might be perfect as it'd probably be closer to the E28 lie and even more closed than the P46.

CCM's P46 is a good suggestion. It's readily available so you don't have to custom order it and you could find that curve in a clearance stick. I've tried it and it plays very similar to the Smyth.

They'll also have a better offering in 2017.

Look Fast the P46 appears to be a curve that is becoming limited in the newer CCM lines this year.  I like it alot and its dissapointing to see it go to the top of the line sticks and Not sure its available across all the stick lines (tacks might be the only line).  I found some Smyth Blades and like the Smyth alot as well, but it has more toe and is more neutral with the face angle.  The Kovalchuk (W08 version) appears less than the Smyth or the W88 as far as face openess

I wish I could get P46 blades, just to stock up as it'll likely be gone soon. Plus, I'm not a big fan of CCM's retail shafts.

I've been using P28 for a year and after getting the "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome, I grabbed a BC71 (Base Hockey's Malkin Pro). Feels very different. I think a Kovalchuk pro (at least the old Dolomites) would be closer to a closed P28 -- dunno if anyone makes it though. After using the P28 for so long, it felt weird seeing the heel part being so straight. Gonna stick to the P28 for now and sell the BC71 blade.

That old Warrior Smyth (Kovalchuk legal/toned-down pro) is more like the W71 but with a lower lie. It's more of a mid-curve than the P28 which is a heel curve with a secondary curve at the toe. The pocket is more on the heel of the Smyth than the P28.

A) From CCM only?

B) from others?

C) You cannot say?

I am interested in somehow obtaining a Gionta'ish curve (slightly open W28?), ideally on an STX PureGrip shaft (Surgeon RX2, RX2.1, etc.). I am visiting USA in December and trying to figure if I should buy or wait.

CCM has a better offering coming but not until spring 2017, I'll let the rest of that be divulged by CCM.

STX offers an X28, I don't recall W10 being more open than that.

True is also bringing back the TC3 for next years XCore line.

Re: CCM - fair enough - I am not a huge fan of CCM sticks but if they wanna push the curve game, then good on them!

I have never seen or used a W10, but my understanding is that it is about 1/2 to 2/3 more closed than X28 (which I suspect I'd like).

From memory, similar curves with slightly deeper pocket on the P29. Some other comparisons below

lie               blade face angle                   rocker                                       blade face height heel to toe

P46          5                open mid, neutral toe         moderate                                  slightly shorter at the toe

P29          6(?)            open mid and toe                a little more agressive            slightly shorter at the heel

Not the best pictures, but doesn't the P29 look like it has more of its curve concentrated from the mid to the heel, creating a deeper pocket, where the P46 has a more continuous curve from heel to toe so not so deep?

How about the old Warrior Gionta?

And the p46 is nothing like the p29. P46 is a big banana.

The P46 curve on the bottom isn't all that deep. It's the top curve that throws it off visually: it opens in the middle and closes in the toe, making its overall curve look deeper than it is.

No, the p46 at 19mm of depth is one the deepest / biggest curves on the market...have you even seen it in person or played with or you are just looking at puctures? Its a big mid banana theres no other way to put it.
