So I was listening to a couple interviews with Dave Cruikshank (man behind the Easton Makos), and it turns out that he is developing a new hockey skate with his newly formed company (D'Cosi).  Mentions that they should be coming out in the next year.

You can check out the interviews and the discussion on hockey skates here:

Big fan of the Mako IIs.  Hopefully these new D'Cosi skates looks aesthetically-pleasing as well and not like a frankenstein skate like the MLXs.

Thx for the links , interesting that this clip is a year ago so maybe the D'Cosi skates might come out this year?

The first 2 links are from the same video (March 2023).  In that clip he says hopefully in the next year.

The last link is from March 2022, where he said they were in the prototype phase of development.

2023 seems a little fast though, and I would expect 2024 to be a more realistic target.  According to Dave Cruikshanks' linkedin profile though, D'Cosi was founded in 2017, so maybe they've been in development for a while now.

Cross-posting from r/hockeyplayers but had to share— Dave Cruikshank was on a podcast discussing his career and his work with MX and Easton and shared that he’s started a new skate company (D’Cosi) that will be producing skates similar— but better?— to the Mako IIs in the next year or so:

Hockey. He’s currently working as a skating coach with the Kings and was citing all of these players who still worry about skate pain and skate performance. Said the boot would be similar fit to the Mako IIs with improved holders/runners to alleviate hip/groin/core strains. I’m so curious as to what these skates will be

They way I took it is his designing a true one piece boot , the holder & boot being one piece.

Haha yikes, I hope not! Are top-of-the-line clap skates even built like that?

Sounds expensive.... Lol. As in even more expensive than the 1300+ price tag on custom skates now.

I just interpreted him as saying they were not only working on making the boots more performant but the holders as well. He did mention Synergy's impact on sticks but I took that as him talking about the kind of pie-in-the-sky sea change scenario you put in a business plan, not to say the skates were going to fuse the holder into the boot. Not even Bauer went that far with nØD1N (even though a lot of people thought they did).

From what I've seen, no. I think there's a lot of play in alignment, so speed skate blade assemblies allow for lots of adjustments. Last I saw it was metal chunks that bolt together and into the boot. MLX holders were supposed to allow for similar lateral adjustments, though from the pairs I've had, I don't really see that working. I don't think he'll give that idea up. Better to accept a slight weight penalty for optimum mechanical alignment. That's what I'd be anyway.

I was hoping we might be able to get a sneak peak by looking at what Grant's wearing, but he's still in HyperLites as of St. Cloud's last game. I've never seen him wear a pair of Trues.

Can't wait to see what skate he comes out with as the Mako is still, by far, my favorite skate I've ever worn. But not gonna lie, D'cosi skate sounds like a figure skating brand. Not that it matters but just saying lol.

Moved the discussion of D'cosi into its own thread.

Hopefully this is like how the VH thread starts with “what are these weird skates byfuglien is wearing” comment that was originally in the gear spotting thread.
