CCM Vizion skates & the pitch

Having read more on this and having looked at the skates in person it definitely doesn’t look like Vizion is the new Tacks. It’s new 100k.

Ribcor skates are dead. They have Tacks and JetSpeed skates. This is the flagship Tacks skate - that's all I mean by that.

also, does anyone know if theyll be customizable at retail for colors or just the shinny teal-ish color?

Yes - they look gorgeous but won't come out for another month.

These companies never learn. We can't carry three lines of skates.... Hey let's make a new skate and have a third line... Fantastic idea!

I am confused - they haven't added a third line? Are you confusing this because someone said they feel like Ribcors?

CCM just has 2 skate lines - Tacks and JetSpeed

Vizion is just the name of the top-end product.

Think Vapor and Flylite.

Just because its not a full line up of skates doesn't meant it's not it's own unique line of products. The Vizon has its own unique characteristics and build. So its kinda like a third line, just not a complete offering.

That's what I mean.

Will the layered carbon on the outsole plus all of the plush interior be the equivalent of wearing shot blockers? I wear shot blockers and am looking for a pair of skates that integrates the shot blocking effect into the stock construction.

I believe True custom skates have the option of integrated shot blockers.

No, that's just the shell and liner. It's not made to reduce shock per se but some skates naturally hold up better against pucks than others due to the amount of padding they have, but it's not a feature that is considered or marketed with retail skates. For example, retail true skates are pretty good at preventing a degree of pain when taking shots, but if you want a beefed up shell for the purpose of blocking shots, you can get that option with custom true skates, or get aftermarket stick on heat moldable pieces similar to kydex.

What would be great is if the manufacturers could just describe in technical, but simple to understand language, the design and construction elements of the skate and how that impacts fit, feel, and performance. We get meaningless marking spiel about "super carbon extreme nano-weave for the most explosive, reactive speed!" Then we go here to get tidbits of actual information from folks who have tried them on, tested on the ice, etc. I'm not in marketing, but as a consumer I'd be way more likely to spend top dollar if I'm really understanding the skate and not just that they look flashy and are the new hotness.

While I agree with you, sadly, we’re in the minority. People just want to be fed information which is why the average consumer will hear ‘explosive speed’, and think ‘that’s what I want so I need to buy those skates!’

I tried on the Vizion skates and did not like them. The toe cap which is supposed to be "streamlined" or whatever just gelt stiff and painful against the ball of my foot. The area around the ankles also felt like it was too high and restrictive. Coming from Makos going into Warrior Alpha Pros. Both have great comfort.

My kid has always worn vapors but he's 12 now and is influenced by marketing and what pros wear. He begged me for the vizion skates and I caved, we went to Windsor to try them on and he even sold me on the idea after watching videos and knowing what he needs in a skate. After trying out different sizes and fit profiles we couldn't get a pair to fit him correctly. He was wearing 3EE supreme M50 pros and the length was fine but he was maxed out in volume and getting tons of lace bite. The wide variant was too wide in the heel with no lock and the regular width was squeezing at the base of the toes with the new toe cap. Tacks fit better, but had way too much padding in the boots for his liking and I agree, seems like that will pack out and become too large over time. After 90 minutes of trying to make a CCM boot work for him we relented and got the salesman to grab his usual suspect of Bauer Supreme and ended up in a Supreme Fuse fit 2. The vizion are cut almost an inch taller than the supreme boot in the same size, and the tenon guard being integrated into the eyelets was pressing into his calf. The manufacturing quality on the vizion did appear to be very high quality, pitch of the boot seemed to feel normal for a Bauer user but he did not get on the ice with the vizion so that is hard to say without skating in them. I wanted to let him get what he was after but it seems as if you need high volume/width but have a normal sized heel these may be difficult to make fit properly.
