NHL SEASON IS OVER!

What do you guys think is going to happen about the draft?

No CBA = No Draft

Question is what happens to Junior players who have played their last year of junior are undrafted. The trickle down effect will be huge.

Junior players who played their final year and were undrafted will become free agents like they always have.

well, i have been waiting, anticipating this since 1 o clock while I was sitting in my German class, and I am very pissed off I have to say. it just makes me mad that they waited all this time to accept a freaking salary cap, and now when they do, its just too late...

R.I.P. NHL 2004-2005

veterans are going to retire and people are going to lose whatever interest they had in the NHL.

its sad but i wonder, will the NHL ever be the same again?

well just because they want to cap expenses doesn't mean they want to cap revenues.

Finally - CLOSURE!!!

I half-heartedly had hoped there could be something salvaged. But the businessman in me has known better for a long time that this season would not be played - and perhaps a good portion of next as well.

For those who make flippant comments like "they're only a few million apart - get it done!" - listen closely to what you're saying. A few MILLION apart! not thousands, not hundreds of thousands - MILLIONS!.

It's a shame, but I think we all in some way shape or form expected this - just not the pulling of heart strings that preceded it. I for one commented last year during the season that we were headed for at least a year without hockey based on the course the league and PA were tracking.

Let's hope for a cooling off period - and pray that some reasonable - productive negotiations come from this.

The only problem I see now is - the pie just got even smaller........

$10 says this gets resolved tonight or tomorrow

This guy I work with thinks that they'll pull the old wohh, wohh, wohh play, too.

I'm not counting on that, though.

Id love to blame bettman because his lil tremoring body is just annoying, but I have to place the blame on the players (or the union representing them). They make enough, what is a cut of 6.5 million per team.

Eazy, I don't blame the owners for not wanting to lose cash hand over fist anymore without having any sort of chance at a profit while attempting to field a competitive team...

if the cap is 45million and you can only afford 28-32 what difference has the CBA made for you??

I like the NFL cap where you have to be within a certain amount of the cap at all times..the NBA one where you can carry a large deficit under the cap to prepare for an upcoming free agent I don't like..

the only thing this cap does is reduce the spending of the top teams, but with the 24% rollback..it doesn't require the redistribution of talent, although it just might keep Sather from giving Messier 4mil a year,

Melrose just said that he expects a lot of players to cross and I agree if the NHL gets its system in place...

of course the WHA will come into play in the fall, with a salary cap and NHL'ers will come running, especially those angling for that $5million payday that doesn't count against the cap...and the hypocrisy will continue..

But if salaries are linked to revenues then the players will get their fair share.

time for me to order a digital cable box so I can watch College Hockey....

This is so sickening that they STILL could not come to an agreement. I don't know who to hate more for this, Bettman or the NHLPA.....

I don't hate any of them.

I do however have ZERO respect for any of them. Just as they have disrespected me - the fan in this whole mess.

They have done a great injustice to our game.

Every single one of them...

They're starting to really pick apart Bettman's statement on ESPNEWS. You can pick up the stream online at www.espnradio.com

Does 42 mill make the league any more competetive? I don't think it does.

no the 42 million doesnt but the players that are released to get a team under that number will be picked up by another team. Therefore more teams will acquire better players instead of the richer teams hording all the good players so the others cant have them, Toronto, NYR, Wings, Flyers etc......

So most of the teams will be better off financially and also talent wise which will make for a better game on the ice! Hopefully!Otherwise this has just been a big waste of time

I think that one of the things that has annoyed me the most is the number of players who are in Europe. TSN said that over 350 NHL players are over there playing hockey, and most have been since the get-go.

In any other union (which is what the NHLPA is) when people go on strike, they don't just go work someplace else and hope that things are settled. To my eyes, what half of the players have said isn't "This is not enough money to play hockey," rather, they have said "This isn't enough money to play HERE." They then turn around and go to Europe to play hockey for less money, and (for North American players) do it much further from home. I feel like these players are being hypocrites, and I do respect the players who are staying put and not playing.

I should add that I am not on anyone's side in the lockout. This is just one aspect of the situation I would like to comment on.

I wish it were true but there is no way in hell. This will not be resolved until next January.

I'm holding out hope...

I felt like crying when I turned the TV on at 1:00 (I was in Physics) and got the news. I saw it coming, but there is still that element of pain once it's made official.

It shows how much they really care about other players. They're taking the roster spot of some knucklehead that can't do anything but play hockey and NEEDS the paycheck. I don't want to get into a full on rant but it says a lot about the leagues and team owners that suddenly found spots for these cats too! <_<
