Accord

Low profile shin pads?

Recommended Posts

Can someone here recommend a pair of low profile shin pads? My TPS Contour's are really comfortable and everything but they're pretty bulky and I just don't need all that extra bulk and protection for playing in my beer league.

Thanks

Ditto's on the Missions, very comfortable too. Speaking of bulk, I play against one guy who has huge shins. When he's forechecking (yes, some actually do this) he blocks/deflects more passes and can pinch the boards like I've never seen before. I can't tell you how many times this has led to a defensive turnover. Other than protection, big shins can be usefull.

good point jimmy.....lol

I have beaten the life out of my satisfactory ccm 652's...just not enought knee cap protection for an impact on the knee. I liked them because they were not too bulky... seems bulky sometimes get you teh protection you need tho.... They have to be light if they are going to have bulk...

Take a look at the Hespeller x-lite shinpads on some hockey website, very lightweight and not bulky at all.

Accord, I too use TPS Contours, but came from a Hespeler X-lite. The Hespeler's are light and low profile but have very skinny bottoms. I wear my shins over my skates and ended up having to heat them up with a heat gun and open up the bottoms. The TPS' are a nicer pad (and wider- why I bought them) and the weight is not noticable. Just my $.02

I hear ya man. i loved my 652's to death, and then I just realized, that the kneecap pad is broken, almost all the way through, I think that this may of had something to do with my patella dislocation, but i am not 100% sure...but now i am going to have to buy new shinpads...........i guess i may have to look at those Missions.......or get something bulky which im not looking forward to

Can anybody shed some light on the new lines of shins out today. I'm in 6ks right now and I"m just not playing competitively enough to warrant using them. I was looking at some Sherwood 5030s....

I really like my ccm vector 04's. Fit well, not bulky, and I think the price was decent. They were highly recommended by the LHS.

Really old topic, but I love the Bauer Supreme line. I have the One90 shins, love them. They seem to fit a little small though, which is great for me.

Do you skate with Craig Ludwig? LudwigDal.jpg

funny... I commented back 3 years ago... moved from a ccm 652 to a Nike V-12(like the fit) and cracked that pair in the knee cap from a shot... Cant imagine a crappy pad what would have happened.

Anyhow, my buddy with the same v-12's ..same thing... Now I am looking again... Like the mission 130's ... dont like the bulk, but my LHS doesnt carry them. Also like the Bauer supreme 70(similiar to my Nike ) but has same kneecap....

What to do....hmmmm

I keep the shins outside the skate, with the wider Mission wonder if my shins will sit deeper inside...

How are the new vapor SGs? They also seem to be a low profile just judging from pics. Everyone says the Supreme line is nice and slim but haven't heard much about the Vapor XXXXs and XXVs, etc

I may be getting some new SGs and also like low profile shins so it's likely to be some Supremes but wanted to see what the thoughts are on the Vapr series.

I have to say the sherwood shinnys are the way to go. Lightweight and skinny, i have them coming from ccm's and wont be switching back.

I'd go with the Bauer Supreme 50's, Easton S-7's or the Sherwood 5030's if your not in really competative hockey. All low profile, reasonalbly priced and reasonably protective.

I wear sherwood 5030's and play competitive hockey

They do fine for me

The elastic straps are horrible though
