the 5000 is pretty sweet... very comfortable and doesn't hurt your head...

the new jofa helmet is a really good one as well, nice padding and comfort... just looks kinda funny

I really liked the Hefter helmets I saw at the hockey show.  Really nice, light , and nice looking.  I also liked the Reebok's.  Ever since the AHL all star game, the kids have been bombarding me with "when are you going to get the reebok helmets" questions.  I already have several sold and I don't even have them  yet!

He didn't even take it out of the case in Vegas, no way to get a good feel for it there. I had high hopes but the way they've been handling the product has really turned me off. (Hefter)

Chadd,

I know. I wanted to order a few just to get a feel for how they sell, but Hefter has this unrealistic 25 piece minimum buy. For a first year, new unknown product and company, I thought that was too risky to buy that many and have them collect dust if they don't sell. I politely told him, NFW! Instead, I took a chance on the Reeboks, at least they are a name brand and the risk is not so great. The hefter helmet looked like a good product, but I 'm not going to be the sucker to load up on them.

25 piece minimum? Screw that. The RBK is very comfy, you shouldn't have any problems selling it. A lot of dealers don't do enough volume to get them.

There is no single best helmet, the best helmet is the one that fits your head the best while still providing excellent protection.

i agree with accord personally i love the 5000 really comfortable but my bro tried it on and complained that it hurts his head and i tried his 652s and i felt the same as he about our helmets.

no best helmet only best protection helmet

The bottom line is all helmets are certified for protection. Anything else after that is comfort, feel and durability. FWIW, my best selling helmet is the B5000, followed by the 652. Funny how the 8000 never took off in popularity.

Really? I have had mine for 8 months playing 4 times a week and have had no problems with it. I had never heard of that hapening to 5000's.

Mine fell out inside a month and most of the people I know have had to glue theirs back in. It's very common around here. I can't imagine this is the only place where that happens.

I've had the same helmet for 3 years and mines never came out...

I bought an 8000 this year and i really like it. I have had a 5000 and a 4000 also and i'd say the 8000 is the most comfortable although i did get a concussion this year.

8000 never took off in popularity?!

Here in Arizona, I'd bet 60% of travel hockey players have that helmet now.

And at recent tournaments my team has been to, the 8000 has been on quite a few kid's heads.

It hasn't been very popular here. The kids wearing them getting major concussions isn't helping.

I like the Nike 004/Bauer 4000. Yes, this design suffers from the faulty design of the rear screws always cracking the back screw holes, but overall, it's comfortable and provides good protection.

it's true the 8000 is ugly, but i'm sure the price tag isn't helping either ;)

and as for concussions, maybe kids have to realize that having a good helmet will not make them impervious to injury, and should learn to keep their head up

I don't see how the 8000 helmet can have any worse protection than the 5000 when it is using the same padding, but is more adjustable to the head. And I agree that 8000s look horrible with the stock cage, but with Jofa cages and Itech cages/ facemasks.

Actually, I don't believe that helmets like the 5000 and 8000 do anything to prevent concussions. In fact, nearly every kid I see that gets a concussion from a blow to the head has a 5k or 8k. I never see kids with 4k, ht2 or hc95 helmets with concussions from blows to the head.

gotcha. The soft foam seems to cushion a bit more. I saw a picture of Kasperitis with an 8000 helmet with 4000 padding in it. I had a 4000 before my 8000 and personally, when my head gets smacked on the boards, etc., I don't feel as much with the 8000.

From my observations back when the NHL was playing. I use to look for these things when the camera scanned the benches. It looked like a lot of players had the 4000 or 4000 padding. I thought that kind of strange considering the 5000 was suposed to be the latest and greatest. Could it be the 4000 offered more protection?

Well, it depends on how you look at it.

An argument can be made that vinyl nitrile is better than EPP, because it's softer on impact...however, you also need to look at the pros' helmets...thin padding...those guys are fussy, they can shave out the foam, something you can't do with EPP...
