New Stick Technology - Unbreakable ?

Recommended Posts

If it's true, I don't see it being made. Sticks have to have a failure point to break in case it got jammed between someone and a board or something of that nature. No one wants impalings on the ice.

Yeah, and how would flex ratings work, these sticks would have to not flex like a normal stick in order to not break. Or they'd be...curse me for saying this, major stick manufactureres...they might have to make them "gasp" HEAVIER

I speak German and I can barely understand a word of the first part of that! The Swiss certainly have an interesting take on German!

The rest seems interesting, though I'm not sure if it's able to produce "unbreakable" sticks. Part of the process used to make them is "secret", and they didn't seem too inclined to tell people how they did it, but they looked decent when being used. Can't say if it'll work, but it's interesting, though :)

Yeah that dialect and my slow ass work computer made me give up early. I'll have a listen when I get home.

I doubt stick manufacturers would pick this up if it worked. Why would they? They would lose millions if everybody had one stick for the rest of their lives. The only thing that would make people want to buy another one is if they came up with some revolutionary thing every year that would warrant an upgrade.

OMG, the speaker who comments the film is speaking fine, but the announcer and the guy who invented the new technology they speak "Schitzerdütsch" which is a BAD dialect of the German language. I have a hard time understanding them.

The film just shows the guy who is an engineer and who wondered why comp sticks broke so often. He pretends to have found a way to make the carbon fibres more resistant to breakage. In fact, the fibres aren't new, it seems to be the way how they are wraped and fused that is new. You can see in the film how they "wrap" the fibres around a metal core (which is later pulled out) and there is one layer they do not show how it's made as it allegedly is the new technology.

They then showed how he took the shafts to a Swiss pro team (Rapperswil) and how the players do first tests on the ice. Among them is Stacy Roest who loved the kick and the consistency of the stick. After a few tries the players even used the new shaft in playoff games.

They did not show any tests regarding breakage resistance, only shot performance.

They also showed the Swiss importer for Easton who explained Easton's interest in the technology and that Easton engineers had already met the inventor.

My thought is that there is little to wonder about. Many researchers are trying to find better technology for comp sticks. However, no stick will ever be unbreakable. Plus: Sticks MUST be breakable to be allowed in pro hockey. Unbreakable sticks could hurt players badly. I remember a Graf stick was not allowed in the NHL in the past because it did NOT break at a certain preassure.

...he's already in negotiations with Easton. .

Easton charges $390 (cda) for the Stealth. That is supposed to be durable, but still breaks. What would they charge for a truly "unbreakable" stick.

In my defense I didn't make it past the announcer due to the sucky connection I have here at work B)

Thanks for the summary though.

i agree. when a company comes out with something new, likle the stealth when it came out, everyone will want the new "really durable" stick

I thought Marcelo commented about an unbreakable TPS stick they had. The possibility was there, but it defeats the purpose of an OPS, creates a dangerous amosphere and would be difficult to market. This is what I remember, it may not be fact, but for some reason this whole thread bring this back for me.

$390cad where do you live in canada. or that that after tax?

Yeah sorry...I've only seen them at a couple places and 349.00 was the most expensive... + tax (15%) would be something like 400.00.

Try the low version of the link rather than the high version. I had the same problem initially and then I figured out that my DSL couldn't keep up with the streaming video.

The technology sounds cool. I would be really happy if they just found a way to make blades more durable though. I rarely break shafts so that is not a huge concern but I do however go through carbon blades(Innovatives) rather quickly, which really really sucks.
