Greatest Movie Franchises?

Recommended Posts

I'd say the Indiana Jones movies would have to be the best in my book. They are all good stand-alone flicks, you don't need to see the others for any one of them to make sense. There are some running jokes and common threads to make them familar and add a bit for those that have seen them all. The cast is good and and the acting is quite good in them as well. Add the financial success and you have a winner in my book.

Bond certainly is worth a mention but they seem like a film mad-lib at this point. You insert villain, sexy chick name and a couple of locations and the computer spits out the script.

Mack, are you referring to a fifth Hellraiser movie? Like I said, according to their web site, there's like 10 movies or so, but to my knowledge, only 4 have been released to a wide audience. I kind of liked the fourth one. For me, the third one was pure trash. The Phantasm movies have pretty much held their own.

Neo, you make some excellent points about defining a movie franchise and I would have to agree with you on Star Wars (the first three). I think based on your criteria, I would have to put the Rocky movies up there as well. The first four were good (1 & 2, not so much 3 & 4), but whatever came after is garbage. I also heard Stallone is working on another one.

BMGulakiw--

I honestly couldn't tell you what # of the series it was since they don't number them, but it can't be more than a year or two old. Hellseeker or something was its sub-title.

Mighty Ducks

IMO, the 2nd one was definitely the best, but I have high hopes for Mighty Ducks 4. ( http://www.countingdown.com/movies/3543508 )

heh.............but D3 killed it.

1 was great, 2 was great............3 was worse than I dunno what.

4 eh? I won't hold my breath.

BTW, what time you leavin' campus tomorrow?

The 1st and 2nd movie were awesome...

The Godfather...

would love to agree, but I cant. The first one was GREAT, and I liked the second even more, but the third... I would rather watch Gigli 3 times back and forth before I watched that again, so it was a great movie, with an even better sequal

How about the Rambo movies (how many were there?) and all the spin-off flicks they created?

And would an actor creating the same types of movies with different titles be able to be lumped in there as well? I don't care for Steven Segall or Jean-Claude Van Damme, but they had a bunch of martial arts/action movies over a number of years.

I think most people like the 2nd more than the first which cant be said about many movies...and hate the 3rd, haha.

Did anyone bring up Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series yet? I didn't read most of the messages, but I'm really hoping somebody has brought this up already as it's one of the "funniest" horror movies ever.

Thats a great analogy, if you think about it...thats exactly what happens!

I love it in the first one when the demon person sticks the pencil in someones leg and the "red coloured water" came pouring out like a fountain. When I watched this when I was like 10, I got freaked out when the girl was guessing all the cards, then her voice gets deeper and she turns around and shes a demon.

I guess I get the award for longest run on sentence too.

Bond or Indiana Jones. Every one of them are stand alone movies, and they are all pretty good, well with the exception of the Dalton 007 flick(everyone knows Moore was the best Bond).

Never! His acting was terrible in the Bond movies.

I just don't buy Moore as being able to kick anyone's ass.
