NHL looking at blue ice and new line colors

Recommended Posts

The blue ice in Long Beach is horrible horrible horrible. At least the Sabres look like they're going quite a bit lighter but it's still a complete waste of time since it doesn't actually work.

The ice doesn't look that bad.

But, the lines are still hideous.

The Dark blue stands out just fine....why can't they leave the traditional Red lines Red...and the Blue Lines Blue...

I don't get the Orange thing. If anything Red would be EASIER to see against the Blue than Orange.

if the NHL is deciding to change things around I think there more important things to change then the colour of the ice

if the ice was light blue like a baby blue that wouldnt be bad but the ice in long beach thats horrible. the red ice wasnt bad either.

also if light blue ice was use you could leave the blue lines blue since they are darker.

At the Dallas Stars practice facility in Frisco, Tx. they have pale blue ice in their arena. It looks fairly natural, and isn't distracting at all. However, they have enough light in there to illuminate the rest of the city of Dallas. It is an amazing place to see a NAHL league game though. I am ready to go to the Texas Tornado/ Dallas Stars game on March 23rd though. Modano is a maybee, but I just wish that Derian Hatcher was going to be there too.

can't expect people stupid enough to put orange lines to make ice properly, it looks retarded. the "blue" red line looks okay, but the blue (orange) lines and the circles looks like some colourblind kid in art class made it up

Looking at that picture...

I've helped build ice before and you're not supposed to let the hose touch the ice...

you can let the hose touch the ice, but you need to keep it moving so that it does not freeze into the ice, i just finished painting my rink and it looks very nice :D

Holding that hose is such a pain but about the blue ice it kinda makes me think about roller hockey cause a bunch of roller hockey rinks atleast around here are blue.

the blue ice isnt that big of a deal, but yea they shouldve left the red line red and the blue lines blue. what do you guys think of a "two point" arch, kind of like lacrosse? if a shot comes from outside the arch and its not deflected and scores, two points???

Why risk it?

IF you can round up enough people for hose detail, you won't have that problem.

our owner doesn't like to pay a lot of people at the same time... have to make due with what we have..... i have painted a couple times, all i need is three people to help keep it moving.... not too hard

The blue ice is ok, but changin the rest is just useless, why not bring the Fox puck with that whole dumb package, the trying to improve the game thing is getting way out of hand.

I'm not a purist by any means, but if you're going to change the ice color, keep the lines the same colors

I don't think it's a bad idea to change the colors of the ice/lines. From a marketing standpoint, I think they need to put a lot of effort into changing the appearance of the game (IN ADDITION to some real changes such as allowing 2-line passes and such), to make it have the appearance of a new era of hockey because right now regular non-hockey fan people see hockey and pretty much think of it as crap. If they changed the face of the game, such as ice/line colors, NHL symbol, and things like that, maybe people would think of it as "the new NHL" and go "Hey, this looks different than it used to be, I think I'll check this out." It's exactly the same concept as like a soda company changing the symbol or label on the bottle.

While I am for this idea, I must say that the orange lines look bad. They should keep the blue lines blue simply because it has become too much of a part of hockey terminology. The center line can be changed, and I think the ice can be tinted, too.

But the concept of using pastel-colored ice has been studied often -- and in great detail.

"We tried all that stuff before," said Mellanby. "The great thing, especially in the brilliance of high-definition, is the white ice. I checked all that out. I checked this out over and over. The engineering guys who are at the top of their game say the great thing about high-definition is the white ice.

"That was one thing we were certain of was the white ice -- even without high-definition -- was the way to stay."

Great call, Larry.

Apperantly the AHL was actually against this. It was teams idea and the league basically couldn't do anything about it, so they gave it a shot.
