Bauer 4000 problem with my Itech visor

Recommended Posts

My Bauer 4000 helmet came today, it's absolutely awesome, a lot more protective and a lot more comfortable than my CCM 652 helmet. Well anyways, there's one minor problem, when I put my Itech visor on it, the visor is extremely close to my face and this is with it adjusted to the farthest possible position. The visor is literally 1mm from touching my nose and my nose is brushing up against the visor when I do quick movements with my head, it's very annoying. With my CCM 652 I had the visor very far away from my face and it wasn't even half way adjusted out.

What can I do? I can't play like this and I really don't want to have to buy a different visor. I've got a game tonight, if I don't have an answer i'll probably just swap it back onto my 652 and use it temporarily.

Thanks a lot and here are some pics so you can see exactly what i'm talking about:

well there's not much you can do. since the visor is all the way forward, you can't drill out the sides of that. other than getting a different visor, the only other thing to do is drill new mounting holes for the visor just infront of the other ones on your helmet. i had to do the same thing on my 4000 with my oakley visor. i'll take pics of it later if you want.

I've never drilled new holes in the helmet, just a visor, but it doesn't look like you have much room to do so on that one or that it would even make much of a difference. Unfortunately a new visor might be your best option.

I had a similar problem with my HS22 and HC85. I ended up cutting my visor in half so it didn't come down to my nose.

Unfortunately he doesn't have much room on the RBE1. What I told him to do is to move it up the top slot, and drill an additional hole for the second screw. If that doesn't work, he can grind the shield down.

I had the same problem with the old Leader visor that I had. Because I wear sport glasses when I play, the fact that it was so close contributed to how fogged up my glasses got.

I bought an Itech Pro Wave and it sits out a little farther than that. Well not really that it sits farther out, but the shape makes it seem like it's a lot farther out than that flat ones...

You may have to get the new visor...

i don't have a pic with the visor on, but here's what i did (front is to the right):

it doesn't move it a ton, but it was enough to make some room for my shnoz. you just have to make sure you use some rather big washers on the inside around the screw holes so the plastic doesn't crack. worked great for me.

I had the same problem with my Nike 0004 helmet when I installed the Oakley Modifed Aviator visor. The visor was so close to my eyes & nose that it fogged up on every shift on the ice. The only solution was for me to drill holes further back behind the orignal visor holes so that the visor sits farther away from the face. Either that or drill holes in the helmet. Either way, it's not a good design for the visor or the helmet. I have 2 Nike 004 helmets and for my second helmet, I installed the Itech FX 50 half visor with no problems. It sits farther away from my eyes & face with very little fogging.

Could a ref toss you for wearing a non-certified helmet if he sees the extra holes...

Hell, the manufacturers say stickers void the warranty.

(mind you, if you're wearing a half shield, you're probably not playing anywhere that is checking gear for certification...)

Still...question remains...could he?

just a side question

does anybody know if the Itech RBE V would have the same problem on a medium 4000? or is this a common problem with all visors on the 4000?

Yup. Voids warranty, so it voids your insurance.

out of curiousity do you have a large 4000? We always have a problem fitting visors on them in the shop.

Mine is a large....I also used the spacers that came with it....

I put a Modified Aviator on my Nike 004 helmet last week, and had a similar problem. Though mine was one of the shields with the clips and vents at the top, which solved my problem:

I ended up not using screws on the side. I attached it with the two screws at the top of the visor (the ones that let it flip up) and used the straps on the sides to hold it on. It's perfectly stable, and a decent distance from my nose :)

Well i also have a problem with my Bauer 4000, but i wont open a new thread.

My inner cushion stuff is very dirty, can i get it out of the helmet ?

I tried to pull it out but it looked "glued" and it streched a bit. i stopped, i didnt want to break anything.

My helmet is in the lockerroom, so i can try it now.

Any help is appreciated.

You can probably clean it with a rag and some water with Oxy(something or other) without taking it out. If you have a visor I suggest either taking it off before cleaning the padding since some visors don't react well with some chemicals.

I have the same exact problem with the same exact helmet and visor. I need to make a switch because it bugs the hell out of me.

dirty... i thought it was colored because you went a lil crazy with the hair dye. aside from trying to clean the padding, we went over the issues with the foam... if you remove it, voids the warrenty... can't be replaced. try shampoo, thats usually what i clean my helmets with. might not get rid of ALL the dirt and grime, but sure better then it was before.

if its that much of an issue, buy a new helmet!

one option is to cut out the black foam from the temple area (the foam behind the white foam)

that may reduce the width of the helmet allowing the shield to push up a little bit

but the difference would be small

you may be stuck with getting an itech hlc
