  1. https://www.nhl.com/news/new-york-islanders-to-play-12-games-at-nassau-coliseum-in-2018-19/c-295409152 The idea was obviously bandied around quite a bit, but I didn't expect it to actually happen. Good on Ledecky and the NHL to get this done, but I'd still prefer the Islanders just go back to the NVMC full time, especially now that its been renovated. Happy to see the Islanders return to their rightful home, hopefully means more Saturday night home games since the Nets will have Barclays mostly to themselves (there are only 3 on the schedule this year and it's been a notorious issue among Islanders fans).
  2. Congratulations! Hope you make as many (positive) memories in your new home as you did your old one.
  3. I was honestly kind of surprised to see five games at first, but with Marchand's history and the fact that Johansson was injured concussed on the play, it makes sense. EDIT: Johansson was concussed earlier in the year as well, so wouldn't surprise me to see him out for most of the rest of the regular season, considering he's had a history of head injuries.
  4. Video, if anyone hasn't seen the hit yet: It isn't the most egregious hit we've seen, but given how many times Marchand has had to be reprimanded by the league, it wouldn't surprise me if he got the maximum fine.
  5. Thomas Greiss has logos on his Vaughns as well, too bad he can't make a save in them.
  6. They look neat, but like @Cavs019 said, the shoulders should be fixed. I do like them though. And another shot of the new CCM skates.
  7. That's only $320 USD, I'd guess somewhere closer to $450 CAD?
  8. Disclaimer: Never been a Nassau County resident, but I live in the area, follow the Islanders, and have family who lived there for almost 50 years. If anyone on here did live in Nassau County during the relocation process, correct me if I'm wrong. The Islanders had a period in the mid 2000s where people were fairly willing to pay up to give Charles Wang and the Islanders a new arena, but a few botched proposals, the fact that the team was awful, and the rapid downturn of the economy pushed most people to the other side of the fence, not to mention that the Lighthouse Project, the original plan to replace the Coliseum, was rejected. The team's lease for the NVMC went up in 2015, so there was a vote about what to do with the team in 2012, and options included renovating the Coliseum, or building a new rink, both using (at least, in part) taxpayer dollars. Few people wanted to shell out for another project out of their own pockets, since so many proposals for all manner of things were approved in the years before the Islanders vote, and the Barclays Center was already being built, so people voted (57% to 43%) for the Islanders to pack their bags and move out of the dump that was the Nassau Coliseum. The NVMC was eventually given a renovation by the same group that did the Barclays Center, and with the Islanders having a few years before the Belmont arena is ready, the team will need a place to call home. Bettman has been a huge proponent of keeping the Islanders where they are, especially during speculation about the team moving to Kansas or Quebec or wherever, and Islanders fans want their team back home for a while, especially since the team and Barclays management don't get along terribly well about the issues in the arena (management is more focused on basketball), so the temporary move back makes some sense. The glaring issue with the renovated Coliseum is that the seating capacity is only 13,000, but the Barclays Center is pretty close to that if you take out the obstructed seats, and Nassau Coliseum has excellent sightlines anyway. Nothing is set in stone yet, so we'll see.
  9. Can confirm, Barclays Center has about 2000 obstructed seats on one side of the arena, and the team might go back to the Coliseum while the Belmont rink is getting built.
  10. That's more goals than I've scored in my life, my season high is 3...
  11. What curve is that? Looks quite rectangular.
  12. Especially with the cost of the equipment necessary to do it - a six pack of RX 570s was selling for nearly $2000 online, meaning you have to have a pc capable of handling that much wattage (probably around 1500), not to mention the cost is electricity.
  13. Does anyone in this thread mine cryptocurrency, or are you guys reserved to just buying / selling?
  14. RBZ blades have never been known for being durable, but the addition of the metal insert didn't help matters. It'll last if you treat it well, but be careful with it.
  15. Got Islanders tickets for my family's annual Christmas party, against a good team (Columbus) and in the unobstructed seats, no less. Now I have to wait until February...
  16. I don’t know much about finance, but if hockey stores, especially local hockey stores, were getting from 20 to 40 percent margins on sticks I don’t think we’d have a problem with the shortage of local / smaller stores. I could be wrong (or I could have misread).
  17. I actually have family in the Albany area, and I did do a private lesson or two up there a few years ago, so it's possible that I've actually seen you before.
  18. Our school has two hockey teams - one for the super good kids who play all the other really good schools in the area and consistently goes to the state tournament (varsity), and the team for kids who aren't quite good enough yet but they get experience playing in the coaches system and get to have their growth monitored (Junior Varsity / JV). It's a pretty similar dynamic to the NHL and AHL if that makes sense. I also apologize for hijacking the thread.
  19. Of course I love the game, it means a lot to me and it's taught me many a lesson, but I got into the sport late and am certainly not the most athletic guy, but obviously that is most certainly not an excuse. The coaches talk to everyone who comes to tryouts 1:1 after the last session and they told me my puck skills and "Hockey IQ" were good enough to land me on JV, but my skating was going to get me hurt. I plan to go in tomorrow to see if there's anything I can do to work out and practice with the team because I don't have another place to play all winter. I have a good understanding of what needs to improve (keeping my head up, backward crossovers, tight edgework, and most definitely flat out speed), and I think with some structure and intensity I can get myself to Varsity by next year. If it doesn't pan out, the rowing program I play (is play the right word?) for has an intense winter workout program to gear everyone up for the spring season (we've gone to nationals the last few years), and there's no ice time involved, but I will come out faster, stronger, and more agile than I was, and there's always public skate.
  20. My school's hockey program bought one and they seem to really like the product - consistent, quick, portable sharpenings, with little knowledge or experience required? Great! Unfortunately, I can't use it because I got cut from the team, due to my skating ability :(
  21. That's the worst offense right there.
  22. Couldn't have been worse than whoever was actually in goal.
  23. Your post says you were interested in trying the 1N or Super Tacks. For (roughly) the same price you can get custom skates shipped to you from True Hockey. You send in a drawing and measurement of your feet (or they can do it, I believe), and the skates will be built to fit that measurement including a few customization options. Quite a few users here have them, and everybody seems to be happy about them. If you still want an off the shelf skate, try the RibCor 70K in a EE width - correct me if I'm wrong but they should be flat, wide, and mold to your foot well with their construction. They will also cost a fair amount less than other top end skates like the 1N ($700 USD vs 950).
  24. I thought they split from Taylormade so they couldn't make them anymore?
