Today's vent; a venting thread turning into a support group for high school slackers.

After losing the first game of fall season 14-12, I'm now 16-1-0 in my first 17 starts as a goalie with my new team. We won fall league with 13 wins, and I'm 3-0 in Winter B league with a month long break before the next game!

I've been complaining in The Venting Spot about midterms. Got an A on one. Five to go.

There is no doubt that some parents put a lot pf pressure on their kids. And there also no doubt that some kids don't put enough pressure on themselves. There is always a continuum.

Yes. Goes without saying. I'm not proud of or happy with my grades, but I think kids around here are pushed a little too much to overachieve.

As a high school AP I cannot condone supporting the notion that not graduating HS is ok and that your grades do not matter. While there are many people who succeed without a diploma or college degree the odds are not in your favor at all. In fact you stand to lose a tremendous amount of money if you do not graduate HS. Similarly the higher your degree the more money you are likely to earn. So... there is a payoff to doing better. Is it absolute, no. Do you need to get a 3.5. No. But the more competitive the field or graduate school it helps. Does it matter after your first job or two and after you have established a professional track record - unlikely; but how hard you work and how well you do does matter.

I was a career 2-2.5 GPA guy in high school and college. I was lazy and would not do any homework, but I did well on tests and retained the information well. That being said I went to a community college (Purdue University commuter campus). I am successful in my career (civil engineering/land surveying) and honestly the GPA has never mattered when I was trying to begin my career or move to another company.

Just because some people face horrible tragedies doesn't negate what you feel and go through. Also, don't listen to those people TALKING About 3.5 being awful. 3.4 is good. I had a horrible GPA in high school because I never did my homework. Not to advocate taking such a course, but I've done just fine for myself. Hang in there and don't let the bastards grind you down. Edit: Sorry, long day. Just realized you may have meant you're at 2.5, which is about what I skated by at. Either way, same advice applies. Don't give up, and don't pay the jerks any mind.

Had my endocrinologist appointment today. My HbA1C has gone from 137 last August, to 37 today! So happy!

2 week postop doctors from my neck surgery, X-rays look good & doc is impressed with how well my strength has returned to my right side. Still can't lift anything more than 5 lbs, but the best news is I can start weening myself off using the neck brace and once I'm comfortable without it doc said I can start driving again. They're baby steps but slowly and surely I'm getting back on track!

Just finished filling out an application to return to school to finish my degree. I have 8 classes left to complete my BS.

So a little update from my post in the Venting Spot here. My visa came through! Canada, I'm coming for ya! If you see a slightly lost looking confused ginger Irishman with a beard and very few teeth, say hi!

That's a rough couple weeks but as a song lyric reminds me, "wise man said the only way out is through". Hang in there.

Last week an old school friend died. 31, by herself. Tuesday this week, I was repairing a punctured tyre at work when my mum rang to tell me my granny had just died. Then Thursday, after we had buried my granny, my friend Colin died. If life is trying to test my resolve, I'd really like it to stop. Anyway, I hope you all have a merry Christmas. Hug your friends and family, tell them you love them. Be kind.
