A few that I have seen crack were also the result of a rivet or rivets that were not sitting flush. As previously mentioned, all footbeds should be removed from the skate after skating. It amazes me that the majority of skaters do not take care of their equipment properly.

From experience I'd disagree with your statement. I've been in my current skates for just under 2 years now. I rotate 2 sets of LS3 edge runners, skate 5 times a week, and remove my runners after every skate. The trigger mechanisms are just fine, although my holders look like they've been through WWIII. But this is the Sparx thread so let's keep discussing their sharpener.

I’ve had mine since May last year, I skate typically six hours a week, and there is no sign of any cracking. I take mine out of the skates when I get home as trapped moisture can cause the skate rivets to rust. My understanding is that cracking was an issue with early ones, though I might be mistaken, that said, even if they only lasted a year I’d buy another set, they are just so damned good.

Just like anything else, if you take care of it, the rate of failure will go down. Every cracked SpeedPlate I've seen looked like I had to wear a hazmat suit to handle it. Remember, they're plastic and it traps moisture inside the skate after use. Remove them and make sure the boot is dry and you should be good.

I see the blade change trigger as a almost guaranteed point of mechanical failure. The damage during play is most likely with the holders being broken and it still needs to be replaced. Pros are going into any game situation with another pair of skates ready to go.

Since the edge runner locking mechanism has a impact of the trigger mechanism on the runner, I would say that with each clicking of the runners in the holder a small amount of damage is done to the mechanism. I believe the mechanism is there for fast runner replacement in rear occasions when a damage is done to the runner as apposed to pull the blades out after every skate. Although it is just my understanding.

Wow hard week for you . I'msorry. Is it possible to buy the horse? Trade work at the barn? I have no clue of what horses cost. Or cost to take care of . You won't know unless you ask .

The manual machine puts a pressure on the blade when clamping it that can straighten a blade some while grinding. I think this is happening blades bending or misalignment on one end is because the sole of the skate is slippery. Loctite makes many adhesive . I wonder if they have something that will add to the mechanical fastening but removable?

It deals with bent blades as well as any other machine. That said, the best way to sharpen is to remove the runner. Sparx has an accessory for sharpening loose steel.

I heard yesterday that Skate Station near Woking are to become a True skate dealer. They will also have the Bauer 3D foot scanner.

I'm sorry, man. We lost ours to cancer in June. It's a terrible thing. But with a tremendous amount of care from his oncologist, we were able to keep him alive for over a year and a half with a pretty good quality of life for most of it. So don't give up hope. They can treat canine cancer very well nowadays, and can prescribe a lot of drugs, even ones like Marinol, to keep him happy and comfortable for a while. Feel free to reach out if you need advice or support.

I'm moving on Saturday. We bought our first home on November 27 of last year and have spent the last two months getting ready to move in. We had to redo the Kitchen & Bathroom. Put in new basement windows. We had to change a couple of rooms by moving a couple of doors to new locations. And a lot of painting!! I almost can't believe we own a house. We have lived in our apartment since October 1999. We had a lot of memories there. We got married. Helped take care of my Mom before passing away. We had our daughter. I had and recovered from my liver transplants. Now we are starting a new chapter in our lives. Never thought we would ever be doing this, but so excited for things to come!
