The reason I didn't quote your post in my message is that I wasn't directing that comment to you. You were one of a few people who mentioned protection, and that was just my two cents on the subject.

Buy skates for skating. If you want protection, buy protection.
-
When you said "he loved them", I thought you meant that they fit very well, and that's what you should be looking for.
-
If it's simply a decision of whether to buy that pair of skates, I wouldn't concern myself right now with the size marked on the bottom of the insole, or even the skate itself. Sizing helps you select skates to try on. Once you've tried them on, it's a question of how they fit. If the fit's right, the skate's right.

Thanks, I didn't realize that, just saw it posted here recently. Obviously no help, then.

That picture was posted earlier in this thread, at least once. Wasn't it the Penguins list, showing how all the skaters' skates were sharpened, that was posted just recently in a thread here? EDIT: Here we go: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/62896-right-hollow-debunking-a-myth/#entry955999

Instrumental.

Now I know to be even more careful skating near you. Not a lasting problem, I trust.

Link goes to "expired" search.

I think you just have to look at the documentation on the two websites. The FBV certainly appears to have more variety of choices.

They seem to be calling it "Blademaster BFD Flat Bottom", as opposed to Blackstone's "Flat Bottom V". http://blademaster.com/pdfs/BFDFlatBottom.pdf

I've been getting FBV at Total Hockey, haven't had problems with the two locations I've used. Seems the same as the sharpening I got at WF, so I guess they're doing it right. I've never sharpened, but I thought it was about dressing the wheel properly, and getting the blade angle and pressure correct. I would expect some difference in quality based on experience, but not what you're describing. That sounds like a total lack of effort, of understanding what to do, or both.

Sounds like a training problem.

Not to mention potential dental bills and time off work.
-
Was this the reason for the lack of bite in the toe of the left skate?
-
You can always ask for volunteers from the chirpers, so you can demonstrate the damage that can occur without full face protection.
-
I play pickup there on Wednesdays.
-
Which rink is that?
-
The video review also mentions that the outside of the skate is higher than the inside of the skate. Seems like this would be bad for folks who overpronate.
-
The ebay listing said those skates were "new", while the video review mentions skating in them.
-
That's what I thought when I saw the size on those.
-
I started with 100/75, then went to 100/50. I might try the next step, just to see, but right now I'm doing fine with what I've got.

It's nice that it's wider than the skinny little inserts you get with a lot of the shorts. I like the 10K better than anything else I've tried over the almost 50 years since I started playing. I have the one without the garters. I'm not big on multi-function stuff, and I use the velcro on compression shorts to hold up my socks.

KCAD Saturday.
