  1. Heh I think I'd wear a neoprene sleeve on my ankle before I start drilling holes in my skates :P
  2. So you think it's inward pressure from the removable tendon guard not being wide enough?
  3. He's talking about the same bump as I was. It's been discussed numerous times in this thread, with some people finding relief one way or another. Here is a photo of my ankle. Keep in mind this is over a month after I had my issue initially, before I started wearing a neoprene sleeve over the area. It got better for a while (no pain when skating) but lately it seems to have returned. EDIT: Here's another post with the same issue: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/61887-easton-mako-skates/?p=970047 It's been discussed a bunch with the most common suggestion being to heat up the top and roll it out, or have them rebaked without tying the top eyelet tight (or at all) but I haven't had any luck with those ideas yet. They've informally been dubbed "mako bumps" because of how common the issue seems to be.
  4. Somebody earlier in this thread used plastidip on the heels with what appeared to be fairly decent success. There's always spray paint too I guess. But yea, an all-black skate would be nice. Or even white instead of orange.
  5. How come? Seems like a common problem based on the rest of this thread. What makes you say that?
  6. I'm getting "mako bumps" again. They went away for a while and now my last game they were rubbing pretty badly again. I think I'm just going to make the neoprene sleeve (actually a set of ezeefit booties with the bottoms cut out) a regular part of my equipment. Takes 2 seconds to put on, and saves me a lot of pain. I'd also love to see a Mako SE. I kind of wish I'd known VH was going to be doing their thing when I got my Makos, but I'm still pretty damn happy except for the rubbing.
  7. Same here also. I had teammates telling me my skating is much better. I told them having skates that don't hurt really helps.
  8. I had issues with my Makos where the sizing seemed right, but the seam of where the tongue ends would dig into the tips of my toes and was quite painful. I ended up skating with my toes clenched, which made the rest of my foot hurt. Easy fix.. stuck a piece of gaffers tape in the toe cap, covering that seam. Now, no issues. :)
  9. Two pairs retail, two pairs pro stock. Its amazing how much better the quality of pro stock socks is. Like night and day.
  10. Sorry, I meant along the top of the blade, not the grip :)
  11. My god those are beautiful. I wish I had waited!
  12. Funny you guys posting sticks with black on the top. I've been doing this with just a puck on white tape for a while, with my old RBZ60 and now my new RBZ80. CCM just does it for me now on the shaft and blade as well :) (click for bigger pic) Loving this new stick. It's a new curve for me, too. I've been using the Heatley/Iginla/Tavares curve for a while, thought I'd try something new. I also noticed how much rounder the edges of this stick are compared to my RBZ60 from 2012.
  13. I skated a few more times on mine since I had noicing do a slight negative and 10' radius (and FBV!). Night and day. Will be sending in the stock runners to have them profiled as well and get on a monthly rotation.
  14. Going to 10' radius, with a slight negative on the pitch, and adding FBV made all the difference in the world.
  15. Yup, small changes. Going to a 9' radius and significant forward pitch was too big of a jump for me, I think. A couple small adjustments and we'll see where I'm at with that. Thanks.
  16. Keeps people coming back, I guess! I was thinking of getting my Makos profiled. IIRC they are profiled out of the box to 9', and the holders have a pretty significant forward lean to them. Since I'm not the best skater, I was thinking of having them done to 10' (a bit closer to what I'm used to, I was in RBK8k and Nexus200 before this, both on stock steel - but I don't want to make big changes all at the same time) and with a slightly negative pitch so I'm not quite as on my toes (again I don't want to make a huge change, but just a small step down from them being so aggressive). I'm just considering tinkering a bit to get a bit more comfortable on them. Thoughts?
  17. I'm wearing the thin light blue/grey Easton socks they gave me (free) when I bought the skates. Easily the thinnest socks I've ever worn. I like them a lot, honestly. Thanks, good tip. Will try it. I noticed the abrasion is a lot less noticeable if I don't give my laces that last hard tug before tying the knot (which I had gotten used to doing due to wearing skates that were far too big for me for so long). In fact I noticed that I generally don't have to tie my laces all that tight anymore, due to the way the boot wraps around my foot so well. They still aren't perfect but they're by far the best fitting skates I've ever worn (and the first to not have heel lock issues with my right foot).
  18. Has anyone figured out a permanent fix for the ankle/calf irritation? I've tried spot heating and I've tried the earlier posted method of keeping a lace on it to hold it down. I'm at a point now where I'm wearing a sleeve over my ankle (an Ezeefit bootie with the bottom cut out of it) where the top of the skate rubs. I still have a mark on my leg a month later despite trying my best to protect it. BTW I ended up sizing up half a size. Very comfortable skates, now... aside from the spot on my leg.
  19. Bad timing for this... but this just arrived on my doorstep. I cancelled the order for this, and was never billed. Umm, thanks for the free jersey shop.nhl.com, I guess the hockey gods don't COMPLETELY hate me today..
  20. You're a step ahead of me, I can't stop with two feet :)
  21. Yea, we'll see how it goes. If after a couple games I don't think I can keep going, I'll go back and get the 8.5D.
  22. Not gear, but still pretty excited!
  23. Heh, like the guy who decided to watch The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on a plane. Not sure the anal rape and torture scene was really all that family friendly...
  24. I had some woman doing that on the plane beside me. WTF is wrong with people?
  25. Yes, as thin as I can get them. Currently in Bauer Core socks. HM gave me a free pair of the light grey Easton socks with my skates. Oh my god they are so thin, I can't wait to try them!
