VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
BureKovy replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I came from MLX skates and it is stiffer which was hard to get used to. I took a slap shot off my inner ankle that would of probably broke it, instead it was just a deep bruise. After that I am glad I got it. The same thing happened to two of my teammates this year and one fractured his in two places. It will make them last longer too, if you get a flexible tongue you might not notice much of a difference. This is my experience but guys coming from other skates might not notice much of a difference in stiffness. -
Skates Recommendation Narrowish Heel. Wide Forefoot
BureKovy replied to Machine's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Did you buy a standard width nexus? -
April 2016, the guys put it on the gauge and told me because I had a tough time making turns. My front toe skipping. First profile I tried was 9/10" and it felt way better.

Mine was close to 11'

I did this with my MLX, blacked out the silver part and I thought it looked way better. Just took a few coats with industrial black marker to sink in. I haven't touched my VH yet. -
Going to a 2, you don't feel the loss in the crossover? I think this was my main concern so I am to go more zero. But having tried zero and 1, you're right, I didn't notice a very big difference between them. I do like to have tighter turning so the zero felt better for me but I could of easily skated on a 1 and still been happy.
-
Yeah it sounds like quads would be better than what you have right now. I don' think you could go wrong with any one if them. Zero will be better for turning, two better for speed. One is between both. But all will help you get on your toes more.
-
Right now on your step steel you could be anywhere from a 10 to 11' radius. They call it quads because you get 4 separate radius throughout your steel. Do you feel you get good speed, no wasted energy or maybe you want you turns to be tighter. Depends on what kind of player you are.
-
Do you like the step steel radius right now? Or us there anything you would change about it?

It's listed under sticks and shafts The LT is supposed to be the progression of the nasty R. Mr. Data could elaborate more, not sure if it was supposed to be replacing it.

Quad zero is the farthest away from what you want. Quad 2 is 7-10-13-16 Like I said I used 9/10 and it felt similar to quad 1. Id go with quad 2 if he is using 10/11 right now. They should also change it for free if you don' like it. Maybe JR can weigh in or talk to the pro shop, they should be able to tell you. Or just leave it.
-
Really depends on what you are looking for, why do you want to switch from a 10/11'? Quads gives you the ability to make tighter turns but have stability in the middle and back end if the blade. There is quad 0, 1 and 2. Alot of guys go with quad 1, but I didn' notice much of a difference between that and 9/10'. On the quad scale 0 would be better for turning, 2 would be for speed. 1 would be inbetween both.
-
I only had it blended on quad 1, not on the quad 0.
-
I had a 9 radius on my old ls2, went with a quad zero and love it. It really depends on preference but I like the tighter turning style. The stock steel on my new skates were close to an 11 and I didn' it like it. Went to a 9/10 and a quad 1, both were good also and very similar. I could of played on them and I think this is a good place to start. If you'e asking about 11' compared to zero, not close at all. You might be looking closer to a quad 2.

Blade Movement in Tuuk LS Edge Holders
BureKovy replied to Davetronz's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Did you guys drill a hole for the LS2 in case you want to change the steel or are you just taking off the holder in that case? -
It is a good deal plus you got step steel. And its in your size. Feel good about it.
-
Saw 3 pairs of 7.5 for $150 USD. That's asking. One guy had two sets. Granted there was no step steel. I was looking for my buddy but he ended up going with some pro stock nexus.
-
Well "Like new" Guys were selling new ones for $150 few months ago.

Ok just curious, I'm 11.5 on the right skate and it's 296. But I was 306 in MLX size 11. -

What size holder, 306? -

I used the stock footbeds for around 20 games, they are moulded to your foot but having flat feet I was getting blisters in my arch. Usually use superfeet but tried grafs, I like them way better than stock. My old superfeet looked too thin when I got them inside the boot, I could see the red liner on both sides. -

Need Help W/ Picking Skates for Wide Feet
BureKovy replied to WilliamW217's topic in 2016 Product Catalogue Reviews
It was years ago and I think they were regulars. I would say nexus is a good boot if your are going the Bauer route. My friend has the same issue and got 9k skates years ago. We both did a bunch of research and think nexus would be the way to go but haven' tried them on in store so I could tell you for sure. -
Need Help W/ Picking Skates for Wide Feet
BureKovy replied to WilliamW217's topic in 2016 Product Catalogue Reviews
I had the same thing as you. Wore my old 705s but having flat wide feet, they were killing me so I did some research. I went into Reebok/CCM (even just an E width) and they felt way better. So I would say you would be safe going with CCM. Later I had custom wide MLX (early VH), and those are the most comfortable skates I've ever had. For 7 years. Now I'm in VH this year, they feel the same but just stiffer. You can't go wrong with VH/True if you have no budget.
