Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I sharpen a ton of skates and am neurotic and OCD when it comes to the process of sharpening. A 5/8 on a BladeMaster, ProSharp, or BlackStone is the same as a Sparx. Where there might be a small feeling of difference is not taking off the burr entirely from the Sparx sharpening or getting the same level of finish on the blade. I use some special sauce after I sharpen, and a gummi stone to clean the hollow after I deburr skates on the Sparx. It looks like a mirror. If you just take the skates of the Sparx machine, lightly deburr it, it will not feel nearly as sharp as using a manual or semi-automated machine. Once blade sharpening is complete and the steel is still slightly warm, I then coat the blade completely in another product. Let is stand for approx 2 minutes before wiping the remainder off with a towel/cloth. The finish and glide is amazing. -
Shops would love it, companies would not. It would result in them selling less sticks.

Looking for P28 type curve that's a bit more closed

I would wait for this to release -
I personally think the Supreme and Nexus stick lines will eventually merge. It's just a matter of time.
-
Well, since Nexus is dead its possible blue might make it on the Supreme. I think its time to retire the gold/yellow anyway.
-
Yeah, this is possible too.

Superfeet, Stock insoles / Lie,Pitch, Balance Point
VegasHockey replied to Above40's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I feel the same, SF and other thick insoles deaded the feel too much for me. For me, its the absolutely thinnest insole that provides enough support that I usually stick with. RIght now I have been bouncing back and forth between TRUE factory insoles (with grip added) and SpeedPlate 2.0 insoles which I have modified . The factory SpeedPlate insoles were too thick for my liking so I took them to the bench sander and ground them down substantially. -
When I was young, these were my favorite skates. Simple design but very agressive.

I am not sure why you would be slipping unless it was a bad shrpening job or you arent used to the center of gravity change from your old steel to the new pair. Skating on 10' radius vs 9' radius is much more efficent, but where I think you might be struggling is the toe and heel on the LS5 are chunky compared to the LS2. You might want to ask a local shop, thats hopefully competent, to either blade match your old set or at least shave the toe. I wouldnt touch the heel, personally, unless you feel like that is also bothering you as well. Youll notice the chunky toe and heel more when doing cross overs, cross unders, and transitions/pivots. Going to a more sharp hollow honestly doesnt make sense to me. With a long profile you usually will want to go to a more flat hollow. Are you sure they know what they are doing with sharpening?

Interesting story about profiling/sharpening

I had only asked them about a matching set as that was the only way they said they would sell to a retial store. -
That has to be one of the best looking skates I have ever seen Bauer make. I hope they dont cover it with ridiculous graphics.

Using it again tonight too.

Interesting story about profiling/sharpening

Interesting. I had reached out to them about buying a unit but the price was INSANE so that obviously didnt go anywhere. -
It would be difficult to use multiple different carbon weaves in the shaft since its not two peices. That likely why they went with a different structrual design that offer more added strength and less flex. https://buffaloarchitecture.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/AEPresentation-ArchitecturalElements.pdf The hexagon is the strongest shape known. Not many people know this but if you want something to hold a lot of weight pick a hexagon. Hexagonal patterns are prevalent in nature due to their efficiency. In a hexagonal grid each line is as short as it can possibly be if a large area is to be filled with the fewest number of hexagons. This means that honeycombs require less wax to construct and gain lots of strength under compression. It's also one of the only shapes which tessellates perfectly (think tiles, if you tiled a wall with hexagons then there wouldn't be any gaps.

Have a player who is very happy with their helmet and wants to use the Re-Akt Titanium cage but it seems his face length is inbetween sizes. A medium cage is too short on him and a large cage has the bars direcftly in his line of sight. I have tried flipping the clips upside down, messing the the j clips, among other things but it seems the only correct way to fix this is to use a medium cage and lower it slightly so the bars are not directly in his line of sight. Any suggeastions how to accomplish this properly? Its a shame that manufacturers dont make top steel cage clips is different lengths.

I think the days of the Tacks and Supreme stick lines are numberd, they will slowly phase out due to sticks that offer a variable kick point.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I would say the 5/8 FIRE feels like 3/4 ROH, with more glide, and the 3/4 FIRE feels like 1" ROH, with more glide. If you like more "float" than you will likely love it. I personally cannot skate on the 5/8" FIRE as its still too sharp for me. -

If you pay for access to the article you can actually export it in mutiple different formats on your phone. One of those formats allowed is as a PDF. -

I dont know where you got that from. If anything, the hollow on the Sparx ring is more accurate becuase diamond coated wheels dont flex unlike aluminum oxide/silicon carbide when pressure is applied. -
Had a chance to use it today. Was not impressed. Ill wait for them to release the Nexus ADV.
