I maybe have to tighten laces one time in the third period...every fourth or fifth game. I don't need a locking system. I'm sure some like it...can only speak for myself. I love everything else about these skates. I was alternating with my AS1's but last few games have been sticking with the Bauers. I'm sure that the next sucky game I have...I'll switch off. Much more fun to blame my skatesππ
-
Non...like I always have.
-
No argument...I still wear a half shield too...not too smart at this speed, but...old habits die hard...as will I probably π₯ ππ¨π¦π€£π

Don't want shoulder pads though. I cut the caps off my Bauer's last night...ditched them after one period.
-
I'm 5'9" 165, 40" chest, 33-34 waist...the Tour XL is HUGE on me...returning for a medium. I like the design though.
-
I ordered an XL, and if it sux...I'll just return it. After that...maybe just hack my Supremes. I actually like everything about them except for the shoulder caps.
-
Problem solved. I took a rat-tail file to the eyelets. They were hooking the fibers every time I loosened my laces. I guess they were designed to do that so they'd stay tight, but...not worth having to change laces every ten skates...that's once every other week for me.
-
I'll check them out...thank you. Also going to try the Tour Code 1 padded shirt. Still might just hack the caps off my Bauer's. Maybe have a shoemaker modify them so the caps are removable.

Okay so...in college I didn't even wear shoulder pads (unless a ref made me...70s-80s). In the 90s I tried and abandoned them...just hated the bulk. I was out of hockey from 97 until this year (thanks to two new hips). Now...my wife wants me to wear them and...she has a point. At 59...not as bullet proof, and I'm playing with and against some pretty speedy folks. I have Supreme 1S pads, but the caps are so damn big to me. I feel like a fire hydrant wearing them. I am 5'9"/167. Any suggestions for a pair of SP's that are sleek but protective? I am actually considering removing the caps from my Bauer's and wearing them that way. All input is welcome!

Eyelets seem okay in terms of "damage." Maybe I will take some really fine sandpaper and polish them. I can feel them grabbing. That's great for keeping the laces tight, but I'm chewing up laces like crazy. Anyone have a favorite super-tough skatelace?
-
Anyone else find that the molded eyelets chew up their laces? Maybe I need to go waxed? My AS1's have metal eyelets...no issues. The Bauers are eating them up! Thoughts? Just change laces every few weeks (I skate 4-5 times a week)?

I'm the opposite...I prefer the CCM Orthomove. I have them in my 2xPros and AS-1'S. I put Superfeet Carbon Pros in but went back to the Orthomove. I do like the Superfeet...just prefer the CCMs. I found the stock insoles and Speedplates flimsy. It's really just about how you feel.

Helmets: Tacks 710 and Resistance. Visor: Bauer HDO Cage: Bauer Re-akt Titanium Shoulder pads (if I wear 'em) Bauer Supreme 1S/Frankenpads (Cooper SB94 caps) Elbow pads: Bauer Supreme 2sPro Gloves: CCM HG97 & UltraTacks, Bauer Nexus 2n, Vapor APX Pro, Vapor Vapor 1x Pro, Supreme 1s Pro, Classic 4-roll, CCM FT1. Shinguards: Bauer Nexus 2n, CCM AS1, Jofa 9060 Pants: CCM HP45, Warrior QRL. Skates: CCM Super Tacks AS1, AS3Pro, & Ribcor 80k. Sticks: CCM Jetspeed FT3 Pro and AS2 Pro...yeah...I'm a gear ho. Still have all my college gear too, but...it's pretty much just nice to look at now. I miss Cooper from the 70's and 80'sππ₯ π¨π¦ππ

Have walked this path...we are in betweeners...no way around it. If I don't wear suspenders with the QRLs...I have to keep pulling them up. CCM med...waaaaay too small...large...fits. I like the Warriors so much better that I just suck it up and use suspenders. It's worthwhile for me as the padding in the hip is significantly better...I have two new hips...I'll wear suspenders...small price. Cannot speak to the CCM with X-Padding designation.
-
With regard to fit...I have a 34" waist and I also find Warrior medium a bit loose. I like everything else about the fit (and the pants) so I use suspenders. The CCM HP45...I wear a large and that fits more snug than the large CCM's. I don't know if other models of either brand fit the same way.
-
Many! I got Warrior Dynasty's just cuz they were $30 on clearance. Substantial so they'll last...no padding...just a belt to keep them up.
-
The shell is your best friend ππ I'm on one team with Islanders colors but have one black and one red shell for my other teams. Cheap and work great...don't even realize I've got them on.
-
Not sure about the X v C designation. I agree...pro stock pants and gloves are beyond superior and often less expensive. Can't figure that out, but... Be aware...ProStock.com states on there site...NO RETURNS. Maybe verify with them. I got mine from Hockey Monkey, but get sticks from PS. Both have great customer service.
-
I'm not familiar with that Warrior line, but sounds like a good choice if it's trad-fit. I don't have experience with the HP70, but the 45 is the tapered version, so maybe the 70 for you? Still...coming from Cooper Islander pro pants (circa 1976)...the Warriors have that level of protection (no mean feat) with less weight. The extra padding HP...can't speak to that. Maybe go retail rather than Pro Stock.com so you can try on and return. Hockey Monkey will let you return pro stock items for credit. Good luck!
-
I'm going to suggest that you consider the Warrior Covert QRL. I have these as well as the HP45. The CCM is more snug but also shorter (even unzipped), but the protection of the Warrior is superior as the cost of a little more weight. This is especially noticable in the outer thigh and hamstring areas. I'm 5'9", 170, 34" and I wear M Warriors and L CCM. Still need suspenders for the Warrior, it's it. IMHO.
-
I found a pair of Warrior QRL Pro Stock at Hockeymonkey...gonna give them a shot. Warrior might be better for my physique with a short torso.
-
Just to update...the Warrior Covert QRL pro stocks are just about perfect for me. Might even be a tiny bit big, but they are built insanely well and are super comfortable. Not ultralight, but with this much protection and durability...not sure how they could be lighter. Anyway, thanks to all who provided insight!

Thanks so much...that is awesome info. Any idea if the Warrior Tapered style would be a better fit? I'm tempted to give the UCLP a try. I used to (actually still do) wear a pair of Cooper pro Isles pants in medium, and they were snug but they fit. I'm trying not to get "tank" pants but if that's the way it's gotta be...
