  1. Don't want shoulder pads though. I cut the caps off my Bauer's last night...ditched them after one period.
  2. I'm 5'9" 165, 40" chest, 33-34 waist...the Tour XL is HUGE on me...returning for a medium. I like the design though.
  3. I ordered an XL, and if it sux...I'll just return it. After that...maybe just hack my Supremes. I actually like everything about them except for the shoulder caps.
  4. Problem solved. I took a rat-tail file to the eyelets. They were hooking the fibers every time I loosened my laces. I guess they were designed to do that so they'd stay tight, but...not worth having to change laces every ten skates...that's once every other week for me.
  5. I'll check them out...thank you. Also going to try the Tour Code 1 padded shirt. Still might just hack the caps off my Bauer's. Maybe have a shoemaker modify them so the caps are removable.
  6. I'll check them out...thank you.
  7. Okay so...in college I didn't even wear shoulder pads (unless a ref made me...70s-80s). In the 90s I tried and abandoned them...just hated the bulk. I was out of hockey from 97 until this year (thanks to two new hips). Now...my wife wants me to wear them and...she has a point. At 59...not as bullet proof, and I'm playing with and against some pretty speedy folks. I have Supreme 1S pads, but the caps are so damn big to me. I feel like a fire hydrant wearing them. I am 5'9"/167. Any suggestions for a pair of SP's that are sleek but protective? I am actually considering removing the caps from my Bauer's and wearing them that way. All input is welcome!
  8. Eyelets seem okay in terms of "damage." Maybe I will take some really fine sandpaper and polish them. I can feel them grabbing. That's great for keeping the laces tight, but I'm chewing up laces like crazy. Anyone have a favorite super-tough skatelace?
  9. Anyone else find that the molded eyelets chew up their laces? Maybe I need to go waxed? My AS1's have metal eyelets...no issues. The Bauers are eating them up! Thoughts? Just change laces every few weeks (I skate 4-5 times a week)?
  10. I'm the opposite...I prefer the CCM Orthomove. I have them in my 2xPros and AS-1'S. I put Superfeet Carbon Pros in but went back to the Orthomove. I do like the Superfeet...just prefer the CCMs. I found the stock insoles and Speedplates flimsy. It's really just about how you feel.
  11. Well...turns out...I fit in the AS1'sand 2xPro's...well! Lucky me. So...AS1's: fit perfectly with punch-out needed for the left maleolar (aforementioned broken ankle). 2xPro's: Maleolar feels great out of the box. May need to punch the outer forefoot a small amount. Not sure yet, as I only noticed discomfort after a three hour skate. May have felt discomfort in anything at that point. Anyway...I am keeping both. The Bauer is more flexible and easier on my joints, so on back-to-back games/ practices...I'll alternate. Anyway...Blacksteel goes in tonight...nice to have options!
  12. So...they arrived yesterday. First...they did have the box and all of the "stuff," so I was able to read the instructions. They are much more comfortable out of the box than my AS1'S. I do love skating in the CCMs but I need to use a padded collar on one foot and a maleolar pad on the other. That is a story...last college game of my career...6-1...losing with 30 seconds to go...reflexively blocked a shot by kicking my foot to the side...moron! Anyway...Vapors are comfortable in those spots already! I will skate them and evaluate...go from there. I may very well end up keeping both! One more observation...the Orthomove insole is awesome for me...not sure about this Vapor flex insole...seems flimsy. Probably put Superfeet Carbon Pro in them...have wanted to try them. Thanks for all of the help folk!
  13. So wow...my local shop wants $50 to bake! Yes...they are $1,000 skates, but...we have a gas convection oven and I'm not gonna space out watching YouTube videos while baking skates. I'm going to have to give serious consideration to doing this myself! If I need them punched...that's a different story. First step will be...put them on and make sure they are for me.
  14. I'm getting a pair new (from an individual...not a store) but no box, so...I'd be most grateful if someone would be willing to walk me through the specifics of baking this particular skate. I need times...temps...anything not intutive. I know about not pulling laces upward, not flexing while cooling, and 24 hour wait for adhesives to reset. Just need the technical info. Bauer chat just said take them to a retail store. If I can, I will but that may not be an option. Thanks all!
  15. For anyone interested...they did a great job. Communication was spotty, and it took about three weeks. Bottom line...great work...good price, but...you better not need them fast.
  16. Can't speak to the differences among them, but I have 97x pro stock and love everything about them. Traditional fit ( but not too bulky), tank-like protection, light and mobile. These and the Bauer Nexus 2n are my absolute favorites. The Bauer fit is a bit more snug and the thumb flexes. Both offer exceptional protection in a classic style. Reebok has a 4-roll that you might also like. Similar to the 97 with a little less refinement and a little more room.
  17. Been scanned...good starting point but gotta go with feel from there...in my experience.
  18. Ok...that makes sense. So...what did you end up going with? I'm in AS1's and I love the way they fit. I'm just interested in trying other skates. I think I remember the 2sPro being similar in fit but a little more flexible when I was trying on skates. I might like that additional flexibility, as the Super Tacks are exceptionally stiff. I will say that for 0-60 acceleration they are phenomenal.
  19. The flex/feel part does, but not the part about the toe cap. According to Bauer, the Supreme is the wider of the two? Did you mean that the Supreme was roomier in the toe.
  20. I'd love to hear more detail about that if you are willing to share.
  21. Helmets: Tacks 710 and Resistance. Visor: Bauer HDO Cage: Bauer Re-akt Titanium Shoulder pads (if I wear 'em) Bauer Supreme 1S/Frankenpads (Cooper SB94 caps) Elbow pads: Bauer Supreme 2sPro Gloves: CCM HG97 & UltraTacks, Bauer Nexus 2n, Vapor APX Pro, Vapor Vapor 1x Pro, Supreme 1s Pro, Classic 4-roll, CCM FT1. Shinguards: Bauer Nexus 2n, CCM AS1, Jofa 9060 Pants: CCM HP45, Warrior QRL. Skates: CCM Super Tacks AS1, AS3Pro, & Ribcor 80k. Sticks: CCM Jetspeed FT3 Pro and AS2 Pro...yeah...I'm a gear ho. Still have all my college gear too, but...it's pretty much just nice to look at now. I miss Cooper from the 70's and 80's👍🥅🇨🇦🏒😎
  22. Curious...again. Have any of you guys (or girls) skated in the Supreme and Vapor and felt good in both? Now...if that's not the case, the next question is moot...How did you choose one over the other?
  23. Thanks for that. Maybe I should reconsider. Do you also like the tounge? That was another turnoff for me.
