Prosharp likes to start beginners out on long radius for stability purposes - definitely an Euro thing. And your typical beginners will have skates that are small. We're profiling 2/3 of the steel. On a shorter steel, even though the profiling zone is shorter, more of the apex of the radius will be in it than a longer blade. That's why the feel is different between sizes - as the steel gets bigger, the gradual transition from the apex is larger.

@smu - I really don't understand why it is hard for you to figure out how to use a photo hosting service and just pop in the URL where it's hosted. That all being said, I do recognize the era we live in. I have temporarily given you access to upload photos to MSH's servers so we can put all of this to bed. On your next post, you will see where it says "Drag files here to attach." Right under the text box. Drag your pic there, it will upload. Then click the Plus sign to insert into post.

We haven't given members options to upload in 10 years. They're using Imgur or other photo upload services.

Side note as I hold my white flag up... You mention photos on MSH. We're considering opening up the option to have access to uploading directly on MSH. It would be something you'd have to pay for, ad we would have to pay for additional resources to handle the load. Do you guys think it's a feature you'd like us to implement?

Restructured the section by radius type. So, instead of making one massive post, you will break down your posts by profile type and your username. So, for example: Quad 1 - JR Boucicaut would be the title of the thread that you create. Any additional comments relating to that profile will go into that thread. Typically with reviews, we only allow the user to post, and not allow responses from others. We will allow responses from others and give the testers the opportunity to answer them.

First off, thanks for being patient. We are really close to opening the doors on this. I've had some questions on how we are going to format the reviews. We will be using Prosharp's methodology; what they do is have the skater rate each profile using their 1-5 rating, as posted below: The goal here is to get a balance between the 4 categories. You will fill the slots as you test the profile. So for instance, there's probably no way for you to get a 5 on mobility and a 5 on stability, but certainly you can get a healthy average between the two on the right profile. Profile 1 will be your control set. You will rate that first. If you know the profile, write it in. If the skates haven't been profiled, just write the model and put "stock" next to it. The tester will have their own topic, which they will start. You'll describe what you feel on each profile and then rate the 4 categories as you go along. I recommend doing it as soon as you get a good feel on them, and just making a post every time. Hopefully towards the end we will be able to determine how you got to your preferred profile. I do realize that there are times that people want a certain category over others. As in, you may feel that you may need more stability, so your focus is on that. Try not to think that way. Rate each profile on its own merit. You may find out that a healthy mix may be better than bleeding-edge.

Similar is probably the better word. It's generally the same pattern. On some sizes it gets tricky and you may have to expand a hole or so.

I believe some units caught on fire due to the sparks caused by cross grinding.

Singles and doubles wouldn't be a problem. I can ask about triples or quads, but typically the recommended steel size starts at 246mm.
